As KBI reported, nearly half (44%) of those ICE deported to Nogales, MX in recent months were long-term U.S. residents brought to the country as children. This month, we continue to see the same pattern, migrants with decades of life, family, and community in the U.S. are being deported to Mexico with no ties here.

Alejandro* is one of them. Brought to the U.S. at age 3, he grew up there, raised his own two children there, and built his life there. When he tried to reunite with his family after a deportation, Border Patrol detained him. He describes four months in detention where some days detainees were only fed one meal, and people in urgent need of medical care were “left to their fate.”

Behind every statistic is a human story. At Kino, we continue to witness and share these stories as part of our call for dignity, compassion, and justice in migration.

📣CALL TO ACTION: Urge your representative to vote NO on the Secure the Border Act- H.R. 2 before May 11th 📣

With ending on May 11, the House of Representatives is considering the Secure the Border Act - HR 2 that would drastically limit the ability to seek in the U.S. In addition, this legislation would require the detention of families and make it significantly more likely that they are deported to dangerous situations. This bill would cause chaos at the and undermine the ability of humanitarian organizations to provide essential services.
