Tomorrow, the Diocese of El Paso will celebrate the Mass of Call to Candidacy for the Permanent Diaconate, a milestone in the formation journey of men discerning a call to the permanent diaconate. During this liturgy, the Church formally recognizes these aspirants and invites them to continue their preparation through prayer, study, and service.

Permanent deacons play a vital role in the life of the Church. They can baptize, witness marriages, proclaim the Gospel, preach, expose the Blessed Sacrament, and assist priests in the Mass. Their service extends beyond the sanctuary into parishes, hospitals, prisons, and communities, where they witness Christ through charity and pastoral care.

The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso invites the faithful to support this important vocation through the Permanent Diaconate Program Endowment Fund, which provides ongoing support for the spiritual, academic, and pastoral formation of permanent deacons through the Permanent Diaconate of El Paso Office. By giving to this endowment, donors help strengthen the future of the permanent diaconate's ministry and the Church’s mission throughout our diocese.
