Day 4 - Fly fishing, horseback riding, and shopping, OH MY!

Today was a little bit more of a relaxed day, though still plenty busy. It was another early morning for some of the group as they went fly fishing. There were several people in the group who caught multiple fish! And some that caught none...but we don't need to talk about that. 😅

While those 14 were out fly fishing, I took 6 girls out in Estes Park for some shopping and lunch at a VERY delicious Mexican restaurant. Of course we ended our time out with some much needed ice cream.

After much needed naps, we had another group go horseback riding which was a big highlight for many of them. Our day ended with dinner and a very passionate game of volleyball.

We are so sad that tomorrow is our last full day, but what an amazing week it has been. 🩷

Day 3 - Rocky Mountain National Park

Today was an early day!! Chaperones made sure everyone was awake by 6:00am to leave the Y at 6:30. From there, we traveled to Rocky Mountain National Park where we drove Trail Ridge Road (TRR). TRR is a 48 mile one-way highway through RMNP that travels from the bottom of the mountains all the way up to the tundra. We drove the whole stretch one way, stopped along the way for pictures and some shorter hikes (we even saw two moose and many, many elk!!). Then we stopped for lunch and regrouped to decide how we wanted to split up.

Most of the guys were looking for longer hikes to do in RMNP while the girls and Cooper opted for a much more relaxing trip to a lake for some swimming and stopping for ice cream. Matt's group climbed Deer Mountain while Adam's group climbed 3 miles uphill and were above 12,000 feet in elevation.

I have to give a MASSIVE shout out to April, Matt, and Adam for braving the drive of Trail Ridge Road! There aren't any guardrails - at best some very short rock walls in only some places. The drive was so worth it not only for the adventure and scenery aspects, but also to challenge ourselves. Overall, today was a very good day for all!

Day 2 - Day at YMCA of the Rockies

Day 1 ended in celebrating Easton's birthday. Naturally we had to give him a sash and pin that said "It's My Birthday!" while the rest of us wore party crowns that said "Let's Party!" A birthday is not complete without cupcakes. After, a few of the youth randomly generated teams for a group-wide spike ball tournament. In the end, Abe and Teddy were the ultimate champions!

Day 2 started with a self-guided tour of the YMCA of the Rockies by our chaperones, Adam and Matt. This was so we could see what activities were offered, where they were located, and to see more of this MASSIVE camp! Then, groups were off to have fun! Some did an aerial course, archery, and axe throwing, while others opted for some group quality time by the stream we found on our tour and another hike around the camp.

Tomorrow will be the earliest morning of the trip, so please pray for these kids as they need to be up and ready to go by 6:45am (the horror!!!!).

And our group is off to Estes Park, CO!!!
17 youth and 4 adults met at church at 3:00am. There are many tired faces, many energy drinks cracked, but also a lot of smiles and good spirits!

What a fantastic week of Summer Stretch! This group of young people are hard working, positive, inclusive, and fun. Highs from the week ranged from working in the food pantry, playing games and doing crafts with residents at The Classic, swimming, and making new friends at Hope and Immanuel Lutheran Churches. Their lows? The heat and weeding... Who can blame them?! 😉

Special thanks to the Trinity food pantry, The Classic, and Luther Park Bible Camp for hosting us and allowing us opportunities to put our faith into action. We can't wait to partner with more places next year!
