Our chaplains had a tour of the Day Resource Center this week run by Hope Gospel Mission. What a great addition to our community! The center is in need of workers and volunteers. It's a safe place for our community members to get a shower, clean their laundry, get some snacks, and hang out. Thank you for supporting our community, Hope Gospel!

Hope has a way of showing up in unexpected places.

Behind prison walls, God is writing stories of redemption, restoring broken hearts, and giving men and women a reason to believe their future can be different.

Today, we simply celebrate this truth:

No wall is too high. No past is too broken. No life is beyond the reach of God's grace.

The Gospel changes everything. 🙌

Thank you to our correctional officers who work behind the scenes to keep our incarcerated community safe!

There are some messages you receive in this profession that stay with you. This is one of them.

Recently, a person currently incarcerated at our jail took the time to write a letter recognizing our correctional staff. The words were honest, humorous, and incredibly meaningful.

The letter acknowledged the patience, compassion, kindness, humility, and respect our correctional officers show every day—even when dealing with difficult, frustrating, and sometimes downright ridiculous requests.

Correctional officers don't always hear “thank you.” Their work can be challenging, stressful, and largely unseen by the public. Yet they continue to show up, day after day, and treat the people in their care with dignity and humanity.

As Sheriff, I couldn't be prouder of the men and women who serve in our jail. They represent the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office exceptionally well. Thank you. You guys freaking rock! And thank you to the individual who took the time to remind us just how much the little things matter.

Below is the full text version of that letter.
“I want to take a moment to acknowledge YOU, all the corrections officers of the Eau Claire County Jail; for your kindness, compassion, and really treating us like were people. I admit that some of my requests are absolutely absurd, trivial, and unnecessary. And then there's how many other inmates making their, often, ridiculous requests (AT LEAST MINE AREN'T RIDICULOUSl).I cannot even begin to imagine the extent of the level of unnecessary grief you all endure EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. by us. But you do. .. and you keep CHOOSING TO come back here ... ?ya'II need to get your heads examined,.because what I'm about to say is something I cannot imagine is something ya'II hear often, especially by us, "societies rejects". In this EDOVO curriculum, I learned that there are facilities RIGHT HERE IN THE USA that the living conditions are similar to those in third world countries, and crooked co's operating them to boot. TO ALL OF THE STAFF OF THE EAU CLAIRE COUNTY JAIL, THANK YOUI THANK YOU FOR ALL THE LITTLE THINGS YA'LL DO, YOUR HUMILITY, AND RESPECT. I don't care what they say, YOU GUYS FREAKING ROCK! THANK YOU!”

A Story of Freedom
As told by a Good News Global Chaplain

When I went into the housing unit, one of the men who had been in custody for about a year came up to talk with me. During this time in custody, he began taking the Bible seriously for the first time in his life. He placed his faith in Christ and started faithfully studying the Scriptures. He had been in custody before, but had never truly pursued learning and applying the Bible.

Recently, he shared with me how he has been walking away from situations where he normally would have become angry and fought. For about three months now, he has avoided fights entirely. What especially encouraged him was that officers and others around him had noticed the change in his life as well.

For the first time in his life, he is living with self-control.

This deeply encouraged me because throughout much of this past year, as he was learning the Bible, he regularly shared with me how he had gotten into another fight. It seemed to be a constant struggle. So we spent a great deal of time talking through what the Bible says about anger, self-control, and how to respond to others. I cannot even remember half of the conversations we had on the subject, but I do remember how much time, patience, and focused one-on-one ministry went into it.

Now, seeing the fruit of that work is incredibly encouraging.

God truly transforms lives.
