Meet our seminarians! 👋

This is Deacon Lucas Dacosta, who was ordained to the transitional diaconate earlier this year. He is originally from St. Francis Xavier Parish in Acushnet and is currently studying at St. John's Seminary in Boston.

Take a look at his vocation story:

"I was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts where I first heard the call from the Lord in high school. My home parish is St. Francis Xavier in a Acushnet. I attended Our Lady of Providence seminary in Providence, Rhode Island, where I studied at Providence College before going to St. John’s seminary in Brighton for three years. I took the past year to teach theology and be the director of campus ministry at St. Catherine of Siena School in Norwood but I will be returning to St. John’s Seminary in the Fall to finish my last year of studies in preparation for ordination."

The priesthood is a calling.

Christ asks of some men the sacrifice of their lives in following him as his more intimate companions. From all eternity, certain men are called to the priesthood. It is a call inscribed in their nature and because of this, is a call that will bring them fulfillment.

If I go to seminary does that mean I’m going to become a priest? If I enter a religious order, will I automatically become a nun for life?

No. This is time for further discernment. If you go to the convent and then start to feel unpeaceful, or think you want to date after all, you can leave. Simple as that. Same with seminary.

(By the way, most people, even if they leave, are very grateful for their time in formation. It’ll make you a better Catholic for the rest of your life!)

A group of high school young men from the Diocese of Fall River recently enjoyed a tour of Our Lady of Providence College Seminary and Providence College!

The fun-filled day was organized and led by our seminarians Noah Pollard, Sean Kilty, Nick Huegel, and Myles Forgue.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the young men to pray together, share a meal, and experience seminary life firsthand. A great day of fellowship, faith, and discernment!

Our Diocese of Fall River seminarians all got together for a day of prayer and fraternity before the fall semester begins!

The 2026 Seminarian Convocation wasn't complete without some time out on the water, kayaking and boating, and of course, pickleball! 🏓🛶⛵

Pray for all our seminarians as they close out their summer assignments and return to their studies. 🙏

Last Sunday, Nita Rajani, from Holy Family Parish in East Taunton, entered the Postulancy for the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament!

The ceremony was presided over by Bishop Michael G. Duca, from the Diocese of Baton Rouge!

Please keep Nita and all the other postulants in your prayers as they begin this beautiful step into religious life 🙏

Our high school discerners hiked Mt. Monadnock with Fr. Jack, Fr. John, and some of our Fall River seminarians this past week.

It was a day of fun, fraternity, and reflection on discerning God's call!
