Over the years many churches, including ours, have planned an annual FRIEND DAY, or even participated in an annual BACK-TO-CHURCH SUNDAY, to which a great amount of time and money was given. And as wonderful as these special days have been, encouraging members to attend and extending the invitation to others to be a guest, they have been just that; special days promoted and planned once-a-year.
Here at Dodge City First Baptist Church we have started something new - the first Sunday of each month will be a FREIND DAY. So, what is it? Well, it's a day where the emphasis is to "come to the table."
It's a special Sunday each month where the Lord's Supper (communion) will be shared, and the Good News about Jesus, the only Savior, will be presented through music and the message and the other elements within the Sunday morning worship service. It's a day to come to the table, no matter who you are, and to be set free!
In addition, it's a day for the church to come to the table for a carry-in (potluck) meal, extending its fellowship beyond the morning service. It's a time at the physical table where relationships can be renewed or even created.
Of course, every weekend is a great opportunity for you to be in attendance and to invite others. However, maybe a once-a-month special day is something you need as a catalyst to help you come to the table, as well as invite someone to join you. And perhaps you missed out on the FRIEND DAY in July, or the someone you invited was unable to come. Well, the next one is this coming Sunday, August 2nd. Will you and someone you invite...
Come to the table; come join the sinners who have been redeemed.
Take your place beside the Savior. Sit down and be set free. Come to the table.
To the thief and to the doubter. To the hero and the coward.
To the prisoner and the soldier. To the young and to the older.
All who hunger, all who thirst. All the last and all the first.
All the paupers and the princess. All who fail, you've been forgiven.
All who dream and all who suffer. All who loved and lost another.
All the chained and all the free. All who follow, all who lead.
Anyone who's been let down. All the lost, you have been found.
All who've been labeled right or wrong. To everyone who hears this song.
Come to the table; come join the sinners who have been redeemed.
Take your place beside the Savior. Sit down and be set free. Come to the table.
I'm praying you will.
