Close to My Heart
Be at peace, My child. See, you are not alone. My Heart watches over you. Jesus filled me with strength concerning a certain person. I feel strength within my soul (Diary, 799).

January 29, 1937. I overslept today. A little longer, and I would have been too late for Holy Communion because the chapel is a good distance from our section. When I went outdoors, the snow was knee-deep. But before it occurred to me that the doctor would not have allowed me to go out in such snow, I had already come to the Lord in the chapel. I received Holy Communion and was back in no time. I heard these words in my soul: My daughter, rest close to My Heart. Known to Me are your efforts. My soul is more joyful when I am close to the Heart of my God (Diary, 902).
My Prayer Response:
Jesus, thank You for Your Heart that watches over us and knows all our efforts. May I rest close to Your Heart.

Through the Heart of Jesus
On Friday, during Mass, when my soul was flooded with God's happiness, I heard these words in my soul: My mercy has passed into souls through the divine-human Heart of Jesus as a ray from the sun passes through crystal. I felt in my heart and understood that every approach to God is brought about by Jesus, in Him and through Him (Diary, 528).

† In this retreat, I shall keep you continually close to My Heart, that you may better know My mercy, that mercy which I have for people and especially for poor sinners (Diary, 730).
My Prayer Response:
Jesus, may the rays of mercy that come from Your Heart shine upon the world and especially on poor sinners. Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Souls Who Love Me Dearly
To comfort you, let Me tell you that there are souls living in the world who love Me dearly. I dwell in their hearts with delight. But they are few. In convents too, there are souls that fill My Heart with joy. They bear My features; therefore the Heavenly Father looks upon them with special pleasure (Diary, 367).
My Prayer Response:
Lord Jesus, thank You for telling me that there are souls who live in the world and love You. In Your great mercy, raise up many more souls to love You and give joy to Your Heart. May I be one of them!

Saint of the Day: Barnabas, an early follower of Christ and missionary, welcomed St. Paul into the Church. Although not one of the 12 apostles, he is viewed as one of the 72 disciples. He accompanied Paul on missionary journeys and supported the inclusion of Gentiles. After separating from Paul over Mark, he continued his work independently. Tradition holds that he was martyred in Cyprus, where he is regarded as a patron saint against hailstorms and as a peacemaker.

So Many Reservations
So I turn to you, you — chosen souls, will you also fail to understand the love of My Heart? Here, too, My Heart finds disappointment; I do not find complete surrender to My love. So many reservations, so much distrust, so much caution(Diary, 367).
My Prayer Response:
O Lord Jesus, may I understand and experience the love of Your Heart. May I not disappoint You but completely surrender to Your love with great trust.

Break through to Souls
Oh, how indifferent are souls to so much goodness, to so many proofs of love! My Heart drinks only of the ingratitude and forgetfulness of souls living in the world. They have time for everything, but they have no time to come to Me for graces (Diary, 367).
My Prayer Response:
Lord Jesus, may Your mercy be accepted. May You break through to souls who have no time for You! Soften their stony hearts, O Lord.

Console My Heart
On one occasion, Jesus gave me to know that when I pray for intentions which people are wont to entrust to me, He is always ready to grant His graces, but souls do not always want to accept them: My Heart overflows with great mercy for souls, and especially for poor sinners. If only they could understand that I am the best of Fathers to them and that it is for them that the Blood and Water flowed from My Heart as from a fount overflowing with mercy. For them I dwell in the tabernacle as King of Mercy. I desire to bestow My graces upon souls, but they do not want to accept them. You, at least, come to Me as often as possible and take these graces they do not want to accept. In this way you will console My Heart (Diary, 367).
My Prayer Response:
Lord Jesus, I pray that people who ask for my prayers accept the graces that You mercifully prepare for them in answer to my prayers. May this console Your Heart. Don't let Your graces be wasted — send them to whomever will accept them!

Preparation for Communion
During Holy Mass, I saw the Infant Jesus in the chalice, and He said to me. I am dwelling in your heart as you see Me in this chalice (Diary, 1820).

Most pleasing to Me is this preparation with which you have received Me into your heart. Today, in a special way I bless this your joy. Nothing will disturb that joy throughout this day ... (Diary, 1824).
My Prayer Response:
Lord Jesus, help me and all who receive You in Holy Communion with a more fervent preparation, so our hearts may be changed. May we sing this song in our hearts:
Change my heart, O God,
Make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God.
May I be like You!
You are the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me.
This is what I pray.
