Saint of the Day: Barnabas, an early follower of Christ and missionary, welcomed St. Paul into the Church. Although not one of the 12 apostles, he is viewed as one of the 72 disciples. He accompanied Paul on missionary journeys and supported the inclusion of Gentiles. After separating from Paul over Mark, he continued his work independently. Tradition holds that he was martyred in Cyprus, where he is regarded as a patron saint against hailstorms and as a peacemaker.
