Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Quad Cities

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Quad Cities We are people of all ages, people of many backgrounds, and people of many beliefs. We have a track record of standing on the side of love, justice, and peace.

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religious tradition that was formed from the consolidation of two religions: Unitarianism and Universalism. In America, the Universalist Church of America was founded in 1793, and the American Unitarian Association in 1825. After consolidating in 1961, these faiths became the new religion of Unitarian Universalism through the Unitarian Universalist Association (

UUA). We are diverse in faith, ethnicity, history and spirituality, but aligned in our desire to make a difference for the good. We have radical roots and a history as self-motivated spiritual people: we think for ourselves and recognize that life experience influences our beliefs more than anything. We need not think alike to love alike. We are people of many beliefs and backgrounds: people with a religious background, people with none, people who believe in a God, people who don’t, and people who let the mystery be. We are Unitarian Universalist and Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, atheist and agnostic, believers in God, and more. On the forefront of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer inclusion for more than 40 years, we are people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We seek to welcome you: your whole self, with all your truths and your doubts, your worries and your hopes. Join us on this extraordinary adventure of faith. Get involved!

Pocket Change for Ladles of Love

Starting June 1 through August 31, two plastic jugs will be on display to be filled with change from our pocket, the very change that usually ends up in the washing machine or the floor of the car. Instead, let’s fill those jugs with our change to help buy the necessary ingredients needed for the Pastoral Care program 'Ladles of Love’. The average money spent on ingredients has been around $160.00 each time new meals are prepared, and intending to keep the freezer stocked as often as it approaches empty. Several people have mentioned they have taken meals from the freezer and given to a member who was in need of a meal which was much appreciated. Kudos to all of us caring for each other, which is why it is called "Ladles of Love’. Help us support each other, by filling our jugs with our change.

Chatting with the Chair – June

We are entering the last month of the church year. We are on track financially thanks to a successful pledge drive, generous matching fund contributors, and our well-organized Treasurer. We also are working on a renewed contract with Pastor Michele Townsend Grove and look forward to her return to the pulpit and as our spiritual leader. We continue to benefit from the community building, organizational stewardship and pastoral care that a minister can provide, even when that person is part-time. The Annual Meeting and elections are completed.

Congratulations to new Board Members, Greg McGee (Treasurer), Cynthia Louden (Trustee) and returning Board Member, Bill Stengel (Vice-Chair) Also, congratulations to newly elected Leadership Development Committee member, Kathie Murtey. Additional positions on LDC have been appointed due to resignations. Thank you to Brian Tuftee, Linda Pratt and Mindy Smith Pace for stepping up! The Strategic Planning Task Force has surveyed congregants with conversation circles and paper questionnaires to gather input on the values and tools that are most important to us. This will lead into the implementation process, developing our future goals for property, finance, our welcoming process and leadership/staffing. We have much to look forward to in the next church year. We couldn’t have accomplished all that we have this year without teamwork, commitment, and our core value of love. Thank you to everyone for your energy, your ideas, and your open hearts!
