1 Peter 5

Verses 1 - 4

In verse 1, Peter refers to himself as a "fellow elder" rather than pulling rank as a primary Apostle. What does this teach us about Christian leadership and humility?

(Good for all the church abuse we see in the world) Verse 2 reminds leaders that the people are "God's flock," not their own. How does this perspective protect leaders from abusing power?

Verses 5 - 7

Verse 5 instructs the younger to be subject to elders, and all to clothe themselves with humility toward one another. What makes mutual submission difficult in today's highly independent culture?

The text quotes, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." What do you think it looks like when God actively opposes a believer's pride?

Verses 6 and 7 link humbling ourselves with "casting all your anxieties on him." How is a refusal to surrender our worries actually a form of pride or self-reliance?

What does "casting your anxiety" practically look like in your daily prayer life?

Verses 8 - 14

Peter describes the devil as a "roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." Why do you think the enemy chooses isolation, pride, or anxiety as ideal moments to attack?

Verse 9 reminds us that our spiritual brothers and sisters face the same kinds of suffering worldwide. How does knowing you are not alone alter your perspective during personal trials?

Look at the four promises in verse 10: God will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. Which of these four actions do you need most from God right now?
