Highways and Hedges

Highways and Hedges Highways and Hedges is a homeless outreach team that is rooted in Luke 14:23.

We provide immediate needs on the streets like food, water, blankets, hygiene, and first aid, as well as connect them with community resources that are helpful for them.

We were so grateful to be part of the Overdose Awareness event in Overton County last night. It was a wonderful time of coming together with others in our community who care deeply and are working to bring hope, support, and awareness to those impacted by overdose.

There are so many stories of hope and redemption—people who have survived and have been given another chance at life. We always want to encourage and champion those people as they continue their journey, reminding them that their lives have tremendous value, their stories matter, and there is always hope!

At the same time, we lovingly honor and remember those who did not survive. Their lives were more than the circumstances surrounding their loss. They were loved. They mattered. And they are deeply missed.

We are grateful to stand together as a community—with compassion, without judgment, and with a desire to see lives changed, families supported, and hope continue to rise. ❤️

We had such a wonderful day preparing meals to take out into our community tonight and serve our friends who need them most. ❤️

Tonight, we were able to serve over 150 meals! 🙌 And on top of that, we started a new laundry voucher program! The excitement on the faces of those who received the vouchers was such a blessing to see. 🥹❤️

God is SO good to continually supply what we need so that we can turn around and provide for others. Every meal, every resource, every opportunity—it’s all because of Him.

We are so incredibly grateful that He allows us to be His hands and feet, loving people, meeting needs, and sharing the hope of Jesus along the way.

All glory to God! 🙌❤️

What happens behind the scenes in a ministry like Highways and Hedges? There are SO many moving parts! ❤️

Today, we tackled something we’ve been praying and preparing for—moving into a storage unit where all of our food and supplies will be housed! We are SO thankful God has provided a space like this for us to work, organize, prepare, and serve.

And our team showed up on a Saturday, in almost 100-degree weather, ready to work! 🥵❤️ That kind of servant’s heart is something I never want to take for granted.

Once everything was moved in, we got to work organizing our supplies so we can be more efficient when preparing backpacks, food bags, hygiene bags, and all the other things we take out into our community.

We have a dedicated shelf for the food we use when preparing and serving hot meals twice a month. And just in case you didn’t know…this team prepares, boxes, and hands out 350+ hot meals every single month! 🙌

But here’s the thing…

What you see on the outside is only a small glimpse of what God is doing behind the scenes.

There is planning. There is shopping. There is organizing. There is preparing. There is serving. There is praying. There are people giving their time, their resources, their energy, and their hearts.

And through every single part of it, God has provided.

He has done exceedingly, abundantly above all we could ask or imagine—and I truly believe He is just getting started!

It’s God’s will that none should perish. And as the Church, we have been given a calling: “Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” Luke 14:23

So we go.

Sometimes we go carrying a hot meal. Sometimes it’s a backpack filled with supplies. Sometimes it’s a bag of food or hygiene items.

But ultimately, we are carrying something much greater:

The hope of Jesus Christ. ❤️

Jesus broke bread. He sat with people. He had conversations. He met people right where they were—and He used those moments to reach their hearts.

We meet a physical need because we believe physical needs matter. But we also know there is a deeper need that only Jesus can fill.

Every meal.
Every backpack.
Every conversation.
It’s all an opportunity to point someone to Jesus.

He is so good. And I will never stop giving ALL the glory and honor to Him for what He is doing through Highways and Hedges. 💙

We’re feeding people, yes! But more than that, we’re connecting them to Jesus 💙

There is so much hurt in the people we serve.
We hear stories of heartache, trauma, and anger. Loss. Abuse. Addiction. Failing health. Hate.

There’s a God-size hole in all of us that only He will fill, and we’re doing our best to make sure we get that message out to as many people that are able to hear and receive it!

“I can't take a heart that's broken
Make it over again
But I know a man who can
And I can't take a soul that's sinful
And make it white, whiter than snow
But I know a man who can

Some call Him Savior
The Redeemer of all men
I call Him Jesus
For He's my dearest friend
If you feel no one can help you
And your life is out of hand
Well, I know a man who can!”

THIS. THIS is why we do what we do.

Yesterday, we had the incredible honor of witnessing a sister repent, turn to Jesus, and surrender her life to Him!

She is a NEW creation in Christ!
The chains are broken.
The past no longer has the final say.
She is walking in freedom today! 🙌
GLORY TO GOD! 🙌🙌🙌

This is why we go.
This is why we serve.
This is why we feed.
This is why we pray.
This is why we show up.

Because behind every meal, every conversation, every prayer, and every person we encounter is a soul that matters to God.

We aren’t just trying to meet physical needs. We want people to know the One who can meet the deepest need of all.

Forgiveness. Freedom. Grace. Mercy. Love.

None of us deserve any of it. Not one of us. Yet Jesus freely gives it anyway. No matter who we are, what we’ve done, where we’ve been, or what our social status is.

His grace reaches into the darkest places.
His mercy meets us right where we are.
His love changes everything.

Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.

And maybe today, that’s you.
If you have a “head knowledge” but not a REAL heart knowledge of Jesus, maybe today is the day you change that. You’re reading through this and the Holy Spirit gives you a little nudge and says “yep- she means YOU!”
He’s chasing you even through a simple Facebook post. 💙

If you want to know what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I would be honored to introduce you to Him. ❤️

Leave a comment or send me a PM. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. Come just as you are.

Because if there’s one thing yesterday reminded me of, it’s this:

There is nothing more beautiful than watching someone go from lost to found, from bound to FREE, and from darkness into the light of Jesus. 🙌😭💙

THIS is why we do what we do.
THIS is why we go.
THIS is why we will keep going.

Thank You, Jesus, for another life surrendered to You!
To God be ALL the glory! 🙌

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

“And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” Mathew 14:14

This past week, our team had the privilege of serving 175 meals throughout our community. More importantly, we had the honor of feeding both physical and spiritual hunger—sharing a warm meal while offering the hope, love, and life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

You may not see a lot of pictures from us. I may not have photos from every place we serve. That’s because our focus isn’t on documenting every moment—it’s on doing what we’ve been called to do: preaching the Gospel to the poor.

We go to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to those held captive by sin through Jesus Christ, to pray for the recovery of sight to the blind, and to see those who are oppressed by the enemy walk in the freedom that only He can give.

People often say a picture is worth a thousand words. But watching a soul encounter Jesus… there simply aren’t words to describe it.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support! Glory to God for the souls He has saved!
