Highways and Hedges

Highways and Hedges Highways and Hedges is a homeless outreach team that is rooted in Luke 14:23.

We provide immediate needs on the streets like food, water, blankets, hygiene, and first aid, as well as connect them with community resources that are helpful for them.

Kelsey and Sandy worked hard today gathering food and stocking up for our upcoming meals feed those in need!
We have a dedicated and caring team who go beyond the highways and hedges to care for those in our homeless and underhoused communities.

God has brought a group of people together at I AM Worship church in these last few months to serve together, and it’s a beautiful thing to see! Our team is currently made up of people from 6 area churches, and it is quickly growing!

We will never be able to reach ALL the lost and those who need to experience the love of Jesus from just 1 church doing all the work (and we shouldn’t think so singular when it comes to reaching the lost)!

We as the “BIG C church,“ as my pastor puts it, have to come together to work as 1 body- the Body of Christ, to fulfill the Great Commission.
We have a duty as Christians to work together, to go into the highways and hedges, and make his house full!
It’s Kingdom work, and there’s nothing more important ❤️

Great job team! Can’t wait to see who you all feed physically AND spiritually in the coming week! 🙌

Sometimes ministry isn’t just sharing Jesus on the street.

•Sometimes, it’s late nights and long hours sorting through donations that are piled high (thank you Jesus for your provisions)!

•It’s rearranging your car and garage (AGAIN) to load, and unload, items that are desperately needed to hand out to a vulnerable community.

•It’s being an intercessor on behalf of the people you serve. Having these long talks with Jesus while elbow deep in sorting donations is a very humbling, and sobering night. It keeps me grounded and reminds me why I serve.

•It’s scheduling meetings, meals, outreach, and seeking new partners to sow into Highways and Hedges- all while my heart is aching for those who I’ve talked to this week with heartbreaking stories, trauma, shame, and (seemingly) impossible circumstances.

I can’t be all things to all people, and I can’t fix all these situations. But I know a Man who can! This ministry is heavy and beautiful all at the same time. It’s supported and misunderstood by others simultaneously.
But I know the Lord said that when we do for the least of these, we do for HIM. He left the 99 to find the 1, and that’s enough for me ❤️❤️❤️

Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, and To set free those who are oppressed.”

Thank the Lord for another one heading to detox today! 🙌🙌🙌 Please pray for this young man! The plan as of today is for him to enter a year long, faith-based program after he finishes detox.
Pray that he chooses the next right thing every time he’s faced with a choice! Pray that he has courage and that his eyes stay fixed on Jesus.

We are so grateful to be able to connect people to resources so they can get help to live the abundant life God has planned for them!

We had the privilege of handing out over 165 meals last week to our neighbors in need. What a beautiful night of prayer, service, and being Jesus’ hands and feet. It’s an honor to be a vessel for him in this way ❤️
Thank you to Isaiah for sponsoring this meal! We’re so grateful for your donation and compassionate heart!

We are so grateful to have had the privilege of baptizing our brother in Christ, Brian Lavender, this past Sunday. Galatians 3:26-27 says, “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
Brian is walking in the newness of Christ- he’s put on some new clothes now!!! Hallelujah, thank you Jesus! 🙌🙌🙌

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭25‬:‭35‬-‭40‬ ‭

If you aren’t looking for him, you’ll miss him crouched down in the ditch. His skin is weathered and his clothes are dirty; he blends in with the ground he lays on.

We search for him. In ditches, behind dumpsters, on roadsides- we seek him out.
He never asks for anything, but is thankful for whatever we bring that day. His eyes light up just a bit when someone calls his name.

Kindness is a fruit of the spirit. Peace. Joy.
These are the things we as Christians can, and should carry to the homeless community. They don’t cost a thing!

In Galatians, James, Peter, and John gave Paul their support and acceptance- but asked of him this one thing: that they continue to remember the poor.
If it was important enough for the apostles to point out in Paul’s ministry, it’s important enough for us to remember ❤️

“All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭

“If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always.”
Isaiah 58:10-11
