What happens behind the scenes in a ministry like Highways and Hedges? There are SO many moving parts! ❤️
Today, we tackled something we’ve been praying and preparing for—moving into a storage unit where all of our food and supplies will be housed! We are SO thankful God has provided a space like this for us to work, organize, prepare, and serve.
And our team showed up on a Saturday, in almost 100-degree weather, ready to work! 🥵❤️ That kind of servant’s heart is something I never want to take for granted.
Once everything was moved in, we got to work organizing our supplies so we can be more efficient when preparing backpacks, food bags, hygiene bags, and all the other things we take out into our community.
We have a dedicated shelf for the food we use when preparing and serving hot meals twice a month. And just in case you didn’t know…this team prepares, boxes, and hands out 350+ hot meals every single month! 🙌
But here’s the thing…
What you see on the outside is only a small glimpse of what God is doing behind the scenes.
There is planning. There is shopping. There is organizing. There is preparing. There is serving. There is praying. There are people giving their time, their resources, their energy, and their hearts.
And through every single part of it, God has provided.
He has done exceedingly, abundantly above all we could ask or imagine—and I truly believe He is just getting started!
It’s God’s will that none should perish. And as the Church, we have been given a calling: “Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” Luke 14:23
So we go.
Sometimes we go carrying a hot meal. Sometimes it’s a backpack filled with supplies. Sometimes it’s a bag of food or hygiene items.
But ultimately, we are carrying something much greater:
The hope of Jesus Christ. ❤️
Jesus broke bread. He sat with people. He had conversations. He met people right where they were—and He used those moments to reach their hearts.
We meet a physical need because we believe physical needs matter. But we also know there is a deeper need that only Jesus can fill.
Every meal.
Every backpack.
Every conversation.
It’s all an opportunity to point someone to Jesus.
He is so good. And I will never stop giving ALL the glory and honor to Him for what He is doing through Highways and Hedges. 💙
