“In Unitarian Universalism, you can bring your whole self: your full identity, your questioning mind, your expansive heart.

Together, we create a force more powerful than one person or one belief system. As Unitarian Universalists, we do not have to check our personal background and beliefs at the door: we join together on a journey that honors everywhere we’ve been before.

Our beliefs are diverse and inclusive. We have no shared creed. Our shared covenant (our seven Principles) supports “the free and responsible search for truth and meaning.” Though Unitarianism and Universalism were both liberal Christian traditions, this responsible search has led us to an inclusive spirituality drawn from six sources: from scriptural wisdom to personal experience to modern day heroes.

Unitarian Universalists believe more than one thing. We think for ourselves, and reflect together, about important questions:

The existence of a Higher Power
Life and Death
Sacred Texts
Inspiration and Guidance
Prayer and Spiritual Practices

“It’s Okay to Be Happy” is a speech I delivered in the Toastmasters International Speech Contest a couple of decades ago, and it remains one of my favorites from all the contests I competed in. For this sermon, I’m expanding on that message, and I hope you’ll find pieces of it that resonate with you. Can we be happy? Sure! But can we be happy all the time? Of course not, and for countless reasons. But for this sermon, I want to share my thoughts on how we can cultivate moments of happiness, even if for now they only come in brief flashes along our journey.

Norma Scarlet and Flossie Jordan are giving ourselves a birthday party on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 5 pm at Flossie's home. August is also Ric and Janie's anniversary month, so more to celebrate.
We will be inside with air conditioning.
We will have birthday cake, Frito Pie (with chili and harmburger meat).and a Vegan Stir-Fry, and iced tea.
Bring your drums so we can have a DRUMMING.
This is a Pet Friendly event. Well socialized dogs are welcome.
Bring your CAMP CHAIR as Flossie might run out of seats, so be prepared.
Bring friends if you would like.

RULES: No gifts. No photographs.
We will become even better acquainted than we are now with ICEBREAKER QUESTIONS that stimulate good conversation.
