In signing its Charter in 1969, the congregation demonstrated its commitment to the goals of inclusiveness, which guided James Rouse in his planning for Columbia. OUR MISSION:
• To worship God and respond to the creative Spirit that brings us together;
• To support and nurture each other as we search for God who has already found us;
• To provide a foundation for our life in faith through Chris
tian Education programs for all ages;
• To empower our members for ministry in their daily lives in the world;
• To respect and celebrate our rich diversity and promote inclusiveness for all regardless of race, culture, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, economic status, or different theological positions;
• To be partners with and advocates for victims of social injustice;
• To create a community of disciples who share the good news of Christ and invite others to do the same. OUR VISION:
To strive to be an inclusive Christian community, strengthened by our diverse faith traditions, that comes together to worship God, to further spiritual growth and to minister to each other, the community, and the world through active Christian commitment. We celebrate creative Christian worship in a non-traditional setting. We encourage intergenerational lay participation with the clergy in the worship experience and share the traditions of our denominational roots, along with the multicultural backgrounds of the community. All members are invited to take on leadership roles in the congregation. All are welcome to participate in the life of the church regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, economic status, or theological differences.
