We want to share an inspiring event that happened in our area—one that showed the Lord’s hand lifting spirits and helping our brothers and sisters in need.
On August 25, 2026, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent three semi-trucks carrying about 115,000 pounds of Church-donated food to support families in need in our area. The trucks delivered approximately 4,500 cases of freshly canned and packaged food, which were distributed to 27 food banks, shelters, soup kitchens, and other organizations addressing food insecurity in the Greater Sacramento Area. Local recipients included four organizations serving people in our stake: Orangevale/Fair Oaks Food Bank, Holy Family Church, Sunrise Christian Food Ministry, and the Rio Linda Elverta Food Closet.
This local food delivery is part of American250, a national collaboration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by delivering 250 truckloads of food to cities in all 50 states. By the end of the year, California communities will receive about 100 food trucks. Altogether, these deliveries will provide 10 million meals to families in need across the United States.
JustServe volunteers welcomed the first truck into downtown Sacramento. Within an hour, the food was unloaded, sorted, and ready for local charities to pick up. Just as quickly, the team hefted those 1,500 cases into trucks, vans, pickups, and cars sent by participating organizations for distribution to those in need. Representatives from civic organizations, churches of many faiths, and other groups serving vulnerable neighbors were also there. The spirit of unity was strong, and smiles of gratitude were abundant.
President Oaks reminds us that “The Church of Jesus Christ is committed to serving those in need, and it is also committed to cooperating with others in that effort.” As we follow the example of our Savior Jesus Christ, we find that serving others is a powerful way to live. It blesses those we help, enriches our own lives, and strengthens our communities.
