Dudes & Dads

Please join St. Paul's Dudes & Dads, a group of St. Paul’s men of all ages (whether or not they have children), for a series of summer gatherings for those who appreciate meeting up over a cold happy hour beverage in the hot summer months. The group will gather at a different bar once a month at 4:30 p.m. during June, July, and August. Tomorrow (June 9), Dudes & Dads will meet at Crush Pad Wine Bar on the Downtown Mall; on July 9, they will meet at Three Notch’d Brewery; and on August 6, they will meet at The Whiskey Jar. Please join the group and share in the Dudes & Dads fellowship. Questions? Contact William Taylor at [email protected].

Life is short, and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who make the journey with us. So be swift to love, and make haste to be kind.

EfM Education for Ministry

Congratulations to Mary Wellman on her graduation from the four-year Education for Ministry (EfM) program offered at St. Paul’s through the University of the South- Sewanee, and based upon small-group study, reflection and practice. Over the course of her four years of EfM, Mary read and studied the Old Testament, the New Testament, church history, as well as theology, ethics and interfaith encounter, all in the context of theological reflection (a highlight of the EfM program that helps EfM group members encounter the breadth and depth of the Christian tradition and bring it into conversation with their experience of the world).

EfM enrolls thousands of participants every year in small groups around the world. Dozens of parishioners and neighbors have completed the course in the decades since St. Paul’s began sponsoring EfM groups. For the 2026-2027 year, EfM will continue meeting virtually on Monday mornings, 9:15 to 11:45, from September to May. Interested? Contact Karen Mawyer at [email protected].

A joyous Day of Pentecost at St. Paul's last Sunday!

Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Ascension Day

St. Paul’s will observe Ascension Day tomorrow with a special Thursday edition of our weekly Tuesday Eucharist in the Chapel at 12:15 p.m. Ascension Day, the 40th day after Easter, commemorates the ascension of the resurrected Christ to heaven, and is one of just seven Principal Feasts observed in the Episcopal Church. Parishioners are invited to gather for lunch together after the service (bring your own bag lunch and drink).

Almighty God, Lord of heaven and earth: We humbly pray that thy gracious providence may give and preserve to our use the harvests of the land and of the seas, and may prosper all who labor to gather them, that we, who constantly receive good things from thy hand, may always give thee thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

St. Paul's Clergy Discretionary Fund

The Clergy Discretionary Fund (CDF) is a dedicated account maintained by St. Paul’s for direct financial assistance to neighbors near and far. It is administered confidentially by the clergy staff, and funded by a combination of general funds from the Mission & Service budget and designated gifts from friends and parishioners. Every dollar in the CDF is used to meet short-term emergency needs or to help individuals and families move out of financial crisis into sustainability.

Some examples of recent CDF gifts:

* Grocery money for a woman leaving a domestic abuse situation
* Security deposit on a new apartment for a family who was displaced after the landlord increased their rent unexpectedly
* Rental assistance for a woman who had missed work after being hospitalized for an extended amount of time

Because the CDF is partially funded by St. Paul’s general budget, everyone who supports St. Paul’s financially is already contributing. To make special gifts to the CDF at any time, simply write CDF in the memo line of a check or donate online (with a note in the "special instructions" field designating your gift for the CDF): https://www.spmcuva.org/giving
