Sometimes it seems the church looks for ways to keep the world from believing, and at those moments we have to hang onto Jesus' promise that the gates of Hell will NOT prevail against His bride! Yet we still seem to strive to turn away those we are commanded to pursue. In one of the day's sadder stories, we are reminded just how much money and greed still infiltrate the people of God. We are sinners to the core and in desperate need of a redeemer...not just once, but every moment as He supplies grace to help us grow in truth and obedience. Needless to say, there are far too many things wrong with this story to point them out. Just remember, sometimes God's people pursue godless things. That isn't HIS failing; it's ours!

Please remember: don't be disheartened. HE has overcome the world!

Always nice to see professing Christians suing each other in front of the general public. Just like Jesus would!

OUR PHONES ARE DOWN!

Wish it weren't so, but it is. A lightning strike a few days ago took out a central piece of equipment, and due to the age and cost and time of replacement, we are making some changes. Unfortunately that means that we will probably not be up and running until the end of next week or maybe even a little beyond.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are simply at the Lord's mercy on this one and in the grand scheme of things, not that big of a deal. Nonetheless, pass the word.

Good morning, Salem! As we celebrate the amazing resilience of 250 years of this astounding nation, let's also remember to worship the One who is the source of every good and perfect gift. It was the pursuit of the freedom to worship that led so many to the shores of this land. What a shame if we limit our rejoicing to a cookout and some great fireworks. Let's really show our love for freedom by exalting Him who gave us the greatest freedom of all through the grace extended to us in Christ Jesus! Join us for a special outdoor worship this morning at Salem. We will be setting up in the shaded parking area by the community building. So grab your Bible, your chairs, and a water bottle and join us as we give thanks to God for the life He has given us.

Also, as you park, please leave the spaces closest to our worship area for those who will benefit from a little less walking.

See you at our special 10:00 worship time, followed by a church picnic (indoors if you'd like!)

What are you fighting right now? A person? A circumstance? A decision? Whatever it is, there's a good chance that it seems like a giant standing before you, and when we're facing a giant, we feel like the underdog. The fact is, you are unless God is the one fighting your battle. When David took on Goliath, the Philistine thought the battle was over before it began. Unfortunately for him, he didn't know just how right he was, because Goliath wasn't the REAL giant in the battle. When you are standing on God's side, there is no giant to oppose you, because God is always bigger!

Join us tomorrow morning as we continue to look at the life of DAVID: Shepherd, Sovereign, Sinner & Sign. We will be finishing 1 Samual 17 as we see what God has to teach us in the struggle against the Goliath's of life.

A meal will follow in our Community Building following the 11:00am service.

There will be no gravesite service at this time.

We had a great time at our Family Fishing Derby yesterday afternoon! 🎣

God gave us the perfect day for catching fish after fish out of the Forrester's pond, great conversation, and plenty of food! ☀️

All creation testifies to the beauty and majesty of God! We can ignore it; we can reject it; we can refuse it, and many do. But, the evidence is there. Take for example this marvelous Dwarf Violet Iris photographed in the heart of Michaux. I was made aware of this magnificent bloom by one of our young adults who spent most of her time researching this protected gem for her master's degree.

The Apostle Paul said it this way as he was moved by the Spirit of God,

"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse."

The purple of Royalty. The gold of majesty. The triangular reminder of the Trinity. Is that the purpose behind the flower? I don't know, but I can certainly say it reminds me of the Lord's majesty and glory! It only blooms a few days each year. If you blink, you may miss it, so you have to go looking for it!

May we all spend our days looking at and for the beauty of the Lord in all He has created!

Is image everything?

If you are joining us daily for our Reading Together plan, then today you will notice that we join David and his entourage in 2 Samuel 5-6 and 1 Chronicles 13-16 as they celebrate the arrival of the God's Ark of the Covenant in Israel. As David worships and dances before the Lord, we read a disturbing response from David's wife, Michal, as she watches her husband-king. With harsh, sarcastic tones Michal says to the king,

"How the king of Israel distinguished himself today! He uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants’ maids as one of the foolish ones shamelessly uncovers himself!”

Michal reveals a deep family flaw. The daughter of the deposed King Saul, she echoes her father's obsession with being respected in the eyes of the people. Saul, even after being told he was losing his kingdom, pleaded with the prophet to come back to the city and worship with the king so that the people would not think poorly of him. He was seemingly more concerned with the thoughts of the people than those of the Lord. Michal shows that same superficial focus on outward appearance as she undoubtedly is more worried about her own reputation than God's.

David, on the other hand--in spite of his significant failures--spent his energy at this moment not worrying about his own dignity, but instead pouring out his heart into devotion and praise.

There is an important lesson for each of us here, followed by an equally important question.

The lesson is this: How God sees us is eternally more important than how we measure up in the eyes of the world around us, even if those eyes are our own family.

The question? Where do you put most of your energy, worrying about how others think of you or paying attention to what GOD thinks of you? If you trust in Christ, your status in His eyes is secure; Your father looks upon you with the eyes of grace and mercy and through the sacrifice of His Son. His thoughts of you are ultimately the only ones that matter, and they see you as precious! Don't worry so much about what the world around you sees; pay attention to what God sees in you!

At Salem Church Resurrection Sunday begins with an 8:00am fellowship breakfast followed by our worship gathering as we celebrate History's greatest day together. Come and Behold the unfolding of the amazing mystery of the Gospel through the eyes of the Apostle John as we wrap up nearly 2 years of studying this incredible account of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus!

There is no better way to spend your morning that rejoicing with your friends at Salem!
