All creation testifies to the beauty and majesty of God! We can ignore it; we can reject it; we can refuse it, and many do. But, the evidence is there. Take for example this marvelous Dwarf Violet Iris photographed in the heart of Michaux. I was made aware of this magnificent bloom by one of our young adults who spent most of her time researching this protected gem for her master's degree.

The Apostle Paul said it this way as he was moved by the Spirit of God,

"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse."

The purple of Royalty. The gold of majesty. The triangular reminder of the Trinity. Is that the purpose behind the flower? I don't know, but I can certainly say it reminds me of the Lord's majesty and glory! It only blooms a few days each year. If you blink, you may miss it, so you have to go looking for it!

May we all spend our days looking at and for the beauty of the Lord in all He has created!

Is image everything?

If you are joining us daily for our Reading Together plan, then today you will notice that we join David and his entourage in 2 Samuel 5-6 and 1 Chronicles 13-16 as they celebrate the arrival of the God's Ark of the Covenant in Israel. As David worships and dances before the Lord, we read a disturbing response from David's wife, Michal, as she watches her husband-king. With harsh, sarcastic tones Michal says to the king,

"How the king of Israel distinguished himself today! He uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants’ maids as one of the foolish ones shamelessly uncovers himself!”

Michal reveals a deep family flaw. The daughter of the deposed King Saul, she echoes her father's obsession with being respected in the eyes of the people. Saul, even after being told he was losing his kingdom, pleaded with the prophet to come back to the city and worship with the king so that the people would not think poorly of him. He was seemingly more concerned with the thoughts of the people than those of the Lord. Michal shows that same superficial focus on outward appearance as she undoubtedly is more worried about her own reputation than God's.

David, on the other hand--in spite of his significant failures--spent his energy at this moment not worrying about his own dignity, but instead pouring out his heart into devotion and praise.

There is an important lesson for each of us here, followed by an equally important question.

The lesson is this: How God sees us is eternally more important than how we measure up in the eyes of the world around us, even if those eyes are our own family.

The question? Where do you put most of your energy, worrying about how others think of you or paying attention to what GOD thinks of you? If you trust in Christ, your status in His eyes is secure; Your father looks upon you with the eyes of grace and mercy and through the sacrifice of His Son. His thoughts of you are ultimately the only ones that matter, and they see you as precious! Don't worry so much about what the world around you sees; pay attention to what God sees in you!

It's not often that we want to remember pain and suffering, but that is precisely what takes place this evening at Salem Church. It's an evening of darkness, loss & mourning. It's recalling the emptiness and remorse. It's a night of blood, sweat & tears, thorns, nails and spears. We don't promise you a good time, but if you join us @ 6:30 tonight, we do plan to offer you a chance to reflect on the price that our savior paid for His people, and the contrast that makes Sunday so amazing!

Join us this evening for our annual Good Friday service at 6:30pm @ Salem Church!

Have you ever been passed over? Maybe a job? A team? A choir or band? A romance? Getting passed over can feel like the worst moment in life, but did you know it should also be the GREATEST moment of your life? If was for some Jewish slaves.

The Passover begins in Exodus 12. The Jewish nation was held captive in Egypt. God demanded they be freed from their captivity. Pharaoh said no. God said it's going to cost you your first born, and not only yours, but every family and every animal. It was the consequence of Egypts sin, and it's a reminder to us that sin always leads to death and ruin.

But there was an exception. "If you trust me," says the Lord, "Then take a ewe lamb, kill it, skewer it, and take some of its blood and place it on the door posts and the lintel. As I visit death upon Egypt, I will see your home and the blood of the lamb and I will pass over you and spare you."

Now there generally is a marked difference between the way the Jewish celebrate Passover and the way Christians do. Jewish people tend to remember the event. Christians remember the Lamb. Jesus became our passover. He was sacrificed and His blood was placed upon the wooden post as a reminder that through Him our sin can be 'passed over.'

As we walk through Holy Week, and as we approach Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, Do yourself a favor and go back and rediscover what the passover is all about. Read Exodus 12. Read Leviticus 23. Read John 1:29 and 1 Corinthians 15:20-23. Then come and worship with us this weekend! Join us as we remember and as we mourn and as we rejoice. The Passover is more than just the past; it's a PROMISE! So, come and remember with us at Salem Church!

Friday @ 6:30pm- We remember the pain and suffering of our Lamb.

Sunday @ 8:00am- We fellowship and remember the promise of a future supper with the Lamb!

Sunday @ 9:00am- We worship and Celebrate the victory of the Lamb and his conquering of sin and death!
