Who doesn’t need inspiration?
Our St. Vincent de Paul conference members need inspiration in our mission to serve the poor. There is no lack of those to look up to. There is, of course, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, our founder, who had the first meeting of the society in 1833. He chose St. Vincent as our patron saint because of Vincent’s love and care for the forgotten poor. We also draw inspiration from Blessed Sister Rosalie Rendu, a Daughter of Charity, who worked closely with Frederic tending to the sick and poor in the streets of Paris. Here are her words: “Be kind and love, for love is your first gift to the poor. They will appreciate your kindness and your love more than all else you bring to them.” She said it so perfectly. Of course, we provide financial assistance when warranted, but our focus is to show Christ’s love to those we meet. We see how they are hurting, and the Holy Spirit guides us to meet them where they are.
