Every act of servant leadership points us to Jesus Christ. He washed feet. He welcomed sinners. He carried the cross. He didn't come demanding recognition. He came to serve. When we look for a deacon who is serving, we ought to look for someone who exemplifies Jesus, the perfect Servant. He gave His life so that we could be forgiven and reconciled to God. The church is strengthened when servants step forward because it reflects the heart of Christ Himself.

In Acts 6, the early church faced growing needs and rising complaints. The solution was finding those who were already serving. The apostles instructed the church to identify men who were known for wisdom, godliness, and service. Deacons protect unity, meet needs, and strengthen the mission of the church. As we prayerfully consider deacon nominations, we should look for men who are already stepping into needs, bringing peace, and serving faithfully without recognition.

Joseph didn’t use his position for revenge, but for strengthening others. Even when he had an opportunity to get revenge on his brothers who sold him into slavery, he chose to preserve lives, restore relationships, and strengthen others. True servant leadership isn't about advancing yourself. It’s about helping others flourish. Joseph looked at his painful past and saw God's purpose. Servant leaders use whatever influence God gives them to bless people, not elevate themselves.

Joseph had every opportunity to compromise. His master and the other servants were gone, but he still chose obedience because his focus was on honoring God. Integrity is more than protecting your reputation. It’s being the same person in private that you are in public. That's why Scripture calls deacons to be tested and proven. The right deacon isn't perfect, but his life demonstrates consistent character, faithful convictions, and a clear conscience before God.

Public ministry is strongest when it flows from a private walk with God. Before Joseph ever stood before Pharaoh, he faithfully walked with God in Potiphar's house. His spiritual growth didn’t begin when he started leading. It was formed in ordinary faithfulness. Even in difficult circumstances, Joseph stayed close to the Lord. Acts 6 reminds us that when the church looks for deacons, we should look for men who are already full of the Spirit and wisdom.

When the Titanic sank, the heroes weren't the wealthy or powerful. Rather they were the servants who stayed behind to help others. Crisis reveals what is already in a person's heart. The same is true in the church. When needs or conflict arise, servant-hearted leaders are needed. That's why deacon qualifications begin with character, not popularity. God strengthens His church through people who quietly serve long before they receive a title.
