Congregation Shaarei Kodesh

Congregation Shaarei Kodesh A multi-generational, warm, and fun Conservative synagogue in West Boca Raton. You may come as a stranger, but you'll leave as a friend. We make people count.

Some places count people. Congregation Shaarei Kodesh is a multi-generational, fully egalitarian, synagogue affiliated with The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Founded in May 2004 by a group of energetic families who were looking to create a more intimate synagogue experience, Shaarei Kodesh began meeting in peoples’ homes. After several months and growing attendance, it became apparent

that a larger space was needed, so we moved our services to the campus of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. In 2008, Congregation Shaarei Kodesh took our next big step and merged with Congregation Beth Tikvah. We are now housed at 19785 Hampton Drive in West Boca Raton. In July of 2009, Shaarei Kodesh welcomed our full time Rabbi, Rabbi David Baum. Together with his wife, Alissa and sons, Avi and Harrison and daughter Layla, we are fortunate to have them as part of the Shaarei Kodesh family.

We Are All Public Figures Now. Now What?
Kiddush Hashem in the Age of Smartphones
What does Parashat Emor have to say about smartphones, social media, antisemitism, and the pressure of representing the Jewish people in public?
In this episode of Torah From Boca, Rabbi David Baum explores the ancient Jewish concepts of Kiddush Hashem and Hillul Hashem through some of today’s most difficult realities: viral outrage, public scandals, Israel, and the uncomfortable truth that in the digital age, every Jew is seen as a representative of something larger than themselves.
Drawing on Torah, the Talmud, and recent events, this sermon asks:
Is it fair that the actions of one Jew can affect how the world sees all Jews?
And if it isn’t fair… does that change our responsibility?
From the butcher shop examples in Tractate Yoma to the endless audience created by social media, this message argues that we are all public figures now.

Throughout our year-long Spicy Torah program, one of the crowd favorites has been the Hot Ones segment — where Rabbi Baum put our speakers in the hot seat with questions that escalated from mild to ghost pepper.

Well, the tables are turning.

This Shavuot, Rabbi Baum faces the fire — and we need your help loading the questions.

We're looking for your most provocative, honest, and genuinely spicy questions. Think less "how many times is Samuel mentioned in the Book of Samuel" and more the questions you've always wanted to ask your rabbi but weren't sure you could.

A few examples to get you thinking:
- What's your stance on intermarriage?
- Would you eat pork grown in a lab from cells?
- How do you really feel about what's going in Israel?
Theological, personal, controversial, philosophical — almost nothing is off the table (no questions about specific people or political parties). The spicier, the better.

Please fill out this survey by May 18. We will curate and sequence them for the evening, so your question may appear, but we won't tell you which ones made the cut until the night itself.

Today, we pause as a community for Yom HaShoah. 🕯️

We remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and honor the survivors whose courage and resilience continue to inspire us. Their stories call on us not only to remember, but to act—with compassion, with responsibility, and with a commitment to justice.

May their memories be a blessing, and may we carry them forward by building a world rooted in dignity and care for all.
