Kol Hakovod to our congregant Galia Messika Greenberg on being named the incoming President of the JCRC Board of Directors. Beginning July 1, Galia will make history as the first Israeli to lead the organization.

The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington serves as the central community relations agency of the organized Jewish community in our nation’s capital, working to foster a society rooted in freedom, justice, and democratic pluralism. Through its four pillars of government relations, Israel advocacy, inter-group relations, and social justice, JCRC represents the voices of over 100 constituent agencies, organizations, and synagogues across the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and suburban Maryland.

Founded in 1938, JCRC continues to serve as a unifying voice for Jewish organizations and institutions in Greater Washington, promoting social justice, combating antisemitism and hatred, strengthening interfaith relationships, and advocating for the Jewish community and the State of Israel.

We are proud to celebrate Galia’s leadership and commitment to this vital work. Mazal tov on this well-deserved honor.

For nearly 20 years, Ricardo has been part of the heart of Beth El. Since joining our staff in 2006, he has served our community in countless ways as administrative assistant to the clergy, liaison for b’nai mitzvah families, support for the Senior Caucus, and so much more. Through every role, Ricardo brought people together with kindness, warmth, and dedication.

More than anything, Ricardo has been a true friend to this community and a shining example of what it means to be a mensch.

Please join us as we celebrate Ricardo and wish him and his wife Irene many happy, healthy years ahead.

Nothing better than seeing Hazzan Lubin &Hazzan Fradkin together! Where is your Hazzan at 1:30pm every Friday?

Each week, Hazzan Asa Fradkin helps create a sacred space at Modena through the compassionate partnership of JSSA and Rabbi Rachel Hersh. With heartfelt prayer, timely Parsha insights, and yes, a healthy supply of classic dad jokes, a beautiful community comes together.

Residents arrive with different stories, Jewish backgrounds, life experiences, and challenges. But by the time Hazzan gently begins the familiar melody of Hashkiveinu, a clear crowd favorite at Modena, the room is united in faith, comfort, and fellowship.
It is such a true pleasure and honor to witness these two Hazzans singing together each week, bringing joy, connection, and comfort to this community.

At Beth El, we believe that caring for our community starts close to home. That’s why it was so meaningful for our volunteers to spend time at the Nourishing Bethesda Choice Market, just a short walk from our synagogue and such an important resource for so many families in our area.

From packing bagels to helping stock shelves and greet neighbors with warmth and dignity, our volunteers were honored to lend a hand alongside the incredible Nourishing Bethesda team.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support neighbors facing food insecurity with compassion, kindness, and care. Thank you to Nourishing Bethesda for the vital work you do every day to strengthen our community.

Kol Hakavod כל הכבוד to our volunteers and to everyone working to strengthen our community. Together, we truly are neighbors helping neighbors.
