The voice of intelligence is soft and weak. It is drowned out by the roar of fear. It is ignored by the voice of desire. It is contradicted by the voice of shame. It is hissed away by hate and extinguished by anger. Most of all, it is silenced by ignorance.
—Karl Menninger

There is a story of a woman named Sybil. It tells of a woman who sheltered sixteen personalities within her. Her confusion and fear about the many voices made it almost impossible to make decisions and to be herself. Instead of being one person she was sixteen, until she got help.

We may feel like Sybil at times. Inside, many voices try to tell us what to do, contradict us, knock us down, or make us cringe in fear. Yet we don’t have to listen to those voices. We only need listen to the one voice that is guided by God. God’s voice can be experienced by those who take the time to hear. God’s voice can be heard in many ways, through scripture, through prayer and meditation, through giving to and helping others, also through the love of others.
God’s purposes can be seen and accomplished by those willing to look and see, those willing to be attentive and aware.

God’s voice can become louder and more powerful in time, gradually drowning out the other voices we’ve let run our lives.

A prayer request:
Tonight help me Lord. Help me to tune in the best voice— Yours, God. I’ll turn my will over to You and let You guide me in everything.

Pray with me?

God, I want to stay close to You.

Thank You that You want that too. Thank You for my life and those in it.

Lord, sometimes life gets busy, and sometimes I get distracted, overwhelmed, or try to carry everything on my own.

Sometimes I drift without even noticing. But I don’t want to go through life without You.

Help me stay aware of You in my everyday life.
In moments when I feel lost or unsure, guide me.
During seasons that feel heavy, bring me peace.
After I mess up, remind me that Your love hasn’t changed.
Help me trust You more, little by little.
Teach me to slow down, listen, and follow where You’re leading even when I don’t fully understand.
On the days I feel distant, remind me that You’re still near.
Help me grow, stay grounded, and know You are with me through it all.
Amen
