Anointing of the sick - When the priest anoints a person’s forehead and hands with blessed oil, he prays: “Through this holy anointing may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit.”

The anointing of the sick conveys several graces and imparts gifts of strengthening in the Holy Spirit against anxiety, discouragement, and temptation, and conveys peace and fortitude (CCC 1520).

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick used to be called “the Last Rites” or “Extreme Unction” because the usual recipient was a dying person. But since the Second Vatican Council, the sacrament is not just for those in imminent danger of death, but for all Catholics whose “health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age”.

People of all ages, including children, who suffer from a serious illness or are facing major surgery can be anointed. 💧Please keep those receiving this sacrament in your prayers. 🙏

On Sunday, August 23, Diocese of Crookston seminarian Westin Gourneau was admitted to Candidacy for Holy Orders, during Mass at St. Philip's Church in Bemidji, with Bishop Cozzens presiding.

The Candidacy Mass is a liturgical rite in which a seminarian publicly declares his intention to pursue ordination to the diaconate and priesthood. It is when the Church formally accepts him as a candidate for Holy Orders. During this Mass, Westin was called forward by name and expressed his resolve to complete preparation and to be worthy of ordination. Bishop Cozzens accepted him in the name of the Church.

Westin is no longer just discerning — he is now formally committed to the path of priesthood. 🙏

Lots of updates happening at our church this summer. Thanks to Ness Sealcoat Services, ALL of our parking lots got a fresh seal and new lines painted from the depot to the daycare. 🖤🚗

Next week…the cemetery gets a much-needed sprinkler system. 💦🌾👍

The parish office will be closed to through traffic Monday. Please use door #2 for adoration.
Due to heavy rain Friday morning, the parish office incurred some flooding. Thanks to ServPro, the floors, walls, and offices are drying out nicely, but there is still a lot of work to do.
