This coming Lord's Day, we will observe with others in the Southern Bap. Convention, a special time of prayer for our country. As we prepare to celebrate 250 years as a nation, we see so many critical signs that we are deteriorating as a country. Sin runs rampant in the nation and neighborhoods, forces vastly opposed to our nation's founding principles and God's Word, are no longer hidden under the cover of darkness in the back streets and alleys. They are shouted from the streets openly and defiantly before the very face of God. We must turn in repentance and confession in the Church to implore God's deliverance and blessings. In the Bible God often told His people to "sanctify themselves", to come before God. We have the blessing of prayer in Christ's name which allows us to come before the throne of grace in times of need such as this. Let us come to church this Lord's Day with a positive heart inclined to pray for our country and churches across United States.

Driving through town last week I encountered some obvious street people. They were pushing a shopping cart and pulling their possessions along behind them in a small wagon. I had to wait for them and I confess I felt a little impatient and put upon. Then it occurred to me, that we so often find a critical spirit in ourselves about some things or people, but not others. The fact is the drunkard on the street has the same problem as the drunkard in the uptown corporate board room;...SIN. I have it too! as does each reader of this post. Some of us have been found by Jesus because someone else saw us as lost hopeless sinners in need of a Saviour.
And shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with us. I am so grateful that they did. When you see that street person, or that drunken crowd, or that wild group of folks so openly demonstrating their sin, remember, we were all lost and hopeless until Christ made us His own dear child. Maybe, since we have noticed them, we are the ones God wants to share His love and grace with them.

Galatians 6:9 says, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
One of the greatest acts of "well doing", is something that we all can do. It does not require a giant intellect, a great physical strength, or even much of a sacrifice on our behalf. It simply requires that we desire to do what Jesus commanded us to do and "TELL OTHERS THE GOOD NEWS OF SALVATION" We can start very easily and pick the phone and call someone and invite them to come to church. There at Church, they will hear the gospel and God will take it from there. The Holy Spirit will use the Word of God and convict their hearts of their need to be saved. We can also pray for them as they hear the Word.
It really does not cost us a lot of effort or ability, (someone said, it just takes 'availability').
