Lutheran Church of the Ascension Atlanta

Lutheran Church of the Ascension Atlanta Christological. Incarnational. Sacramental. Liturgical. Prayerful. Faithful. Merciful. Beautiful.

The Lutheran Church of the Ascension is a parish of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Here, we understand our history to be firmly located in the robust history of the Christian Church. To that end, each and every week, we draw upon two millennia of liturgical tradition, embracing the truth, goodness and beauty therein. Our dedication to the past and our hope for the future both help to signify

our catholicity as Lutherans. Located in the heart of Buckhead, the center of our life together is the Divine Service held at 10am on Sunday mornings. The Divine Service is preceded on Sunday mornings at 9am by an hour of Adult Catechesis (Bible Study) with Sunday School for children. Through the beauty of the liturgy and the sublime gifts of Word and Sacrament, the goal at Ascension is to create a community where every person knows that they are not alone and not unloved, precisely because Jesus goes before them, behind them, beside them, and lives through them.

Remembering St. Bartholomew (August 24):

Almighty God, who through Thy Son Jesus Christ didst choose Saint Bartholomew to be an Apostle to preach the blessed Gospel: give unto Thy church evermore faithful teachers, to proclaim the glory of Thy Name; through the same, Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost: ever one God, world without end. Amen.

“O come, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (based on Hebrews 12:2)

"The Lord’s Word quenches thirst, satisfies hunger, and conveys an everlasting covenant between God and His people. Israel is the rightful nation to receive God’s adoption, glory, covenant, worship, and promise. But their lineage is no guarantee! Only those who believe the promise of Jesus are claimed by Him. So also every man, woman, and child who hears His Word is completely satisfied with the truth, righteousness, and compassion of Christ." —Worship Planning Book, Year A
