Last night, at Newman Night we started our first 3-week series with a night on “Seen.” We spent the night meeting new people in the room and playing fun games to get to know them. We also heard a little bit from our AWESOME Campus Minister, Nate Ediger about how he has been seen during his faith journey. Mahala Boothe, our retreat chair, also shared about how she has grown in her faith at Newman thanks to people seeing and believing in her.

As we start off the semester, it is easy to believe that we are alone. That no one is as stressed as I am, so I must be doing something wrong. That we have to go through the semester alone, but last night showed us that the Newman Community is often going through the same things. One game we played last night showed us that we have all been impacted by someone seeing us and making us feel welcomed, we all want community, and we all want to grow in our faith this year. At Newman, everyone is always welcome to join our community to grow in faith collectively.

Jim invites us to reflect on how we are seen, known, and loved by God and by others at our 3-week series. We hope to see you in the Lower Chapel on September 9th, 16th, and 23rd for our Seen, Known, and Loved Newman Nights!

Here is our Newman Night schedule for the Fall 2026 semester! We have some special events right around the corner, so we hope you can join us. A typical Newman night includes prayer, community, and a developing a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith. See you on Wednesdays at 7pm :) (and Sundays at 4:30pm for Mass in the lower chapel… all are welcome!)

On Wednesday, we had our welcome party to celebrate the beginning of the school year! We loved seeing everyone again and meeting new people. We explained a little bit about Newman and our upcoming events and then had a great time playing yard games and volleyball. We even learned a new volleyball game with towels as our way to volley the ball across the net. We finished our night off with some Eva’s Treats. We can’t wait to see how the Lord works through the semester!

Our first mass of the semester went great! We enjoyed seeing everyone on campus and meeting all the new people. It was a great start to our semester!

This weekend our Leadership Council and our Retreat Team moved in early for planning meetings. We are so excited for Mass tomorrow at 4:30pm in Lower Chapel to meet all the new people and see all the familiar faces! We can’t wait to see you at a Newman event this Fall!

Last Wednesday, our Leadership Council got together for a meeting in Akron followed by a Rubber Ducks game. We had a great time bonding as a team and planning for next semester. We have a lot of great events planned for next semester and we are looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting new people!

The week of May 16-22, twelve students and two staff from AU partnered w/ Praying Pelican Missions to help with the Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in Lake Lure & Chimney Rock, North Carolina. Below are some photos from an amazing week of service and fellowship.

St. Paul wrote, “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love” (Galatians 5:6). We pray our small acts of charity will bless the people we served. Their perseverance in the midst of great suffering certainly increased our faith!

Thank you to all who offered prayers and support for our mission. Please keep the people of Western Carolina in your prayers as they continue to rebuild their lives!
