🙏🏾 SUNDAY DEVOTIONAL | ONE DAY. ONE STEP. ONE GOD.

September 6, 2026

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND
by Marsha Burns

“Do not worry about the future. Take one day at a time and do the best you can with where you are and what you need to do right here and now. The enemy of your soul, the devil, will make you feel useless and without hope. But, I am your hope, says the Lord. And I will undertake on your behalf every step of the way. Put your trust in Me.”

📖 Hebrews 11:6
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

SHAUN MICHAEL REFLECTION

Some of us woke up this morning already living in next week.

Trying to figure out what’s going to happen…
How the money is going to work…
What decision we’re going to make…
Who is going to stay…
Who is going to leave…
How God is going to fix something we cannot even see a solution for yet.

And God is saying: COME BACK TO TODAY.

You don’t need Tuesday’s answer on Sunday.

You don’t need next month’s provision this morning.

You don’t need the entire blueprint when God has already given you enough light for the next step.

Faith is not having everything figured out.

Faith is being able to say, “God, I don’t know how this is going to work, but I know YOU—and that is enough for me to keep moving.”

Sometimes the greatest act of faith is not making a huge move.

Sometimes it’s getting up.
Praying.
Handling what is in front of you.
Making the phone call.
Finishing the assignment.
Taking care of yourself.
Being present with your family.
And refusing to let tomorrow rob you of the grace God gave you for TODAY.

Hear me:

God is already standing in the tomorrow you’re worried about.

And when you get there, the grace you need will be there too.

So don’t carry tomorrow twice—once in your imagination today and again when you actually get there.

Handle today with God.

One day.
One decision.
One prayer.
One step at a time.

And when you cannot see your way forward, remember who your Hope is.

🙏🏾 TODAY’S PRAYER

Father, I surrender the future I keep trying to control. Forgive me for allowing fear, pressure and uncertainty to pull me out of the grace You have given me for today.

Help me to trust You without needing every answer first.

Give me wisdom for what I can do today, peace concerning what I cannot change today, and faith to believe that You are already working in places I cannot see.

When discouragement tells me there is no way, remind me that YOU are my hope.

Order my steps. Direct my decisions. Provide what I need. And teach me to walk with You one day at a time.

I trust You with today.
I trust You with tomorrow.
I trust You with ME.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏾

🔥 TODAY’S DECLARATION:

I WILL NOT BORROW TROUBLE FROM TOMORROW.
GOD IS ALREADY THERE.
I HAVE GRACE FOR TODAY AND FAITH FOR MY NEXT STEP.

Happy Sunday! 💙
Stay present. Stay prayerful. Keep moving.

One day. One step. One God.

☕️ SATURDAY SIPS SALUTATION

Good Saturday Morning, Family! 🤎

Here’s what I’m sipping on this morning…

Just because it’s heavy doesn’t mean you’re losing.

Some seasons don’t come with an immediate breakthrough. Sometimes the victory is simply realizing, “I’m still here.”

You’ve walked through some water that should’ve taken you under.
You’ve stood in some heat that should’ve burned everything up.
You’ve had moments where you didn’t know HOW you were going to make it…and yet somehow, God kept you.

Isaiah 43 reminds us that God never promised we wouldn’t encounter the water, the river, or even the fire.

He promised we wouldn’t have to go through it alone.

So today, do what you can with what you have.
Give yourself some grace about what you haven’t figured out yet.
Stop beating yourself up because everything isn’t moving as quickly as you hoped.

You don’t have to have the whole plan today.

Take the next step.
Make the next call.
Handle what’s in your hands.
And trust God with what’s outside of them.

Because maybe the testimony isn’t that you avoided the fire…

Maybe the testimony is that you walked THROUGH it and came out still looking like YOU. 🙌🏾

So sip your coffee. ☕️
Catch your breath.
Square your shoulders.
And keep moving.

You’re still here.
God is still with you.
And this story is STILL being written.

Have yourself a peaceful, productive & purpose-filled Saturday!

🕊️ FREEDOM FRIDAY
KEEP PRESSING FORWARD

Good morning family,

This morning I want to encourage somebody who may feel caught between what was and what’s next.

Transition can be uncomfortable because sometimes you know you cannot go back, but you still don’t have a clear picture of where you’re going.

That does not mean God has forgotten you.

Sometimes we spend so much time trying to understand yesterday that we miss the grace God has given us for today.

There are moments when moving forward does not mean you have completely forgotten what happened. It simply means you have decided that what happened will no longer determine where you go from here.

You can acknowledge the hurt and still heal.
You can appreciate what was and still release it.
You can love people and still accept that a season has changed.
You can be uncertain about tomorrow and still take your next step today.

Freedom is not always a dramatic breakthrough.

Sometimes freedom looks like waking up and deciding:

I will not keep living backward.

Paul said:

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 3:13–14 KJV

Maybe you do not know the entire plan yet.

That’s okay.

Ask God for enough clarity for the next step.

Then take it.

Don’t allow what didn’t work, who walked away, what you lost, or even the mistakes you made to convince you that your best days are behind you.

There is still life ahead.
There is still purpose ahead.
There is still joy ahead.
There is still YOU ahead.

Today’s Freedom Friday reminder:
You do not have to have everything figured out to move forward. You just cannot allow fear of what’s next to keep you chained to what’s already over.

Keep pressing. 🕊️

Prayer:
Father, thank You for carrying us through every season that brought us to this moment. Help us release the things we can no longer change and give us wisdom for the things we still can. Quiet the confusion, strengthen our hearts, and give us courage to take the next step even when we cannot see the entire road. Help us not to live trapped by yesterday, but to walk freely into the life, purpose, peace, and growth You still have ahead of us. Order our steps and keep our hearts close to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Happy Freedom Friday!

THANKFUL & THRIVING THURSDAY THOUGHT 💭🙌🏾

Sometimes life can have you feeling completely discombobulated—too many moving pieces, too many unanswered questions, and not quite sure which way to go next.

But here’s what I’m thankful for today:

God does not require me to have it all figured out before I come near Him.

He says, draw near.

When my thoughts are scattered—draw near.
When the plan changed—draw near.
When I don’t understand what’s happening—draw near.
When yesterday is trying to follow me into today—draw near.

Because confusion does not cancel His presence.

God is still a very present Help. He hasn’t forgotten you. He hasn’t forsaken you. And just because you can’t see the whole road doesn’t mean He isn’t already leading you.

Paul said, “forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal…” — Philippians 3:13-14

There are some things behind us that we have spent enough time replaying, regretting, explaining, grieving and trying to understand.

Today, reach forward.

You may not have every answer, but you have a God who knows the way.

So on this Thankful & Thriving Thursday, I’m thankful that I don’t have to navigate this season alone—and I’m choosing to thrive by trusting His leading one step at a time.

Be bold. Be strong. Keep pressing. What’s ahead requires you to keep moving forward.

Have a blessed Thankful & Thriving Thursday! 🙏🏾❤️

WORSHIP WEDNESDAY WORD 🙌🏾
Worship Ain’t Just a Song.

Something hit me this morning…

We’ve connected worship so much to church, microphones, music and lifted hands that sometimes we forget:

WORSHIP IS A LIFE.

Worship can happen sitting in your car.
Walking and talking to God.
Driving to work.
Sitting quietly with tears nobody else sees.

Worship is also choosing to trust God when life is LIFE-ING.

Galatians 5:16 says, “Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

And “flesh” isn’t just one thing.

Sometimes it’s fear.
Sometimes anger.
Sometimes frustration.
Sometimes wanting to quit.
Sometimes forcing something because we’re tired of waiting.

Walking in the Spirit doesn’t mean I stop being human. It means everything I feel doesn’t get permission to lead me.

Sometimes worship is shouting.

Sometimes worship is singing.

And sometimes worship is simply waking up another morning and deciding:

I’M NOT QUITTING.

I may have lost some things.
I may not have every answer.
I may not know exactly what comes next.

But I’m still here.
Still believing.
Still walking.

And truthfully?

I’m not as scared as I used to be.

Lord, keep my spirit strong, my flesh calm, and teach me to worship You—not just with my mouth, but with the way I LIVE.

Today… THAT is my worship. 🙏🏾❤️

TESTIMONY TUESDAY THOUGHT 🗣️

I had to remind myself of something today…

Just because it’s happening around me doesn’t mean I have to carry it inside of me.

Because if we’re not careful, life will have us carrying EVERYTHING.

What happened yesterday.
What might happen tomorrow.
What somebody said.
What somebody didn’t say.
The bills.
The business.
The family.
The decisions.
The stuff we can fix… AND the stuff we can’t do a thing about.

And before you know it, you’re tired—not necessarily because of what you’re DOING, but because of everything you’re CARRYING.

Whew. 😮‍💨

Matthew 11:29-30 hit a little different for me today:

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me… and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

That part.

Rest for your SOUL.

Not just sleep.
Not a vacation.
Not ignoring what needs to be handled.

But being able to say, “God, I’m going to do MY part and trust You with the part that belongs to You.”

I’m learning that I don’t have to create a worst-case scenario for something God is still working out.

I don’t have to let one difficult day convince me that I have a difficult life.

And I definitely don’t have to carry tomorrow’s weight with today’s strength.

Some things are still being worked out.

Some prayers are still being prayed.

Some answers still haven’t come.

BUT GOD has been faithful.

And THAT is my testimony.

I may not know how everything is going to work out, but I know Who has been carrying me this whole time.

So today I’m choosing peace over panic.
Faith over fear.
And trust over trying to control every outcome.

God, help me carry what You gave me to carry—and give me enough sense to put down what You didn’t. 🙏🏾

🧠 MENTAL MONDAY MOTIVATIONAL

August 31, 2026

“DON’T FORGET HOW YOU GOT HERE.”

Sometimes we become so focused on where we’re trying to go that we forget to look back—not to return, but to remember.

Remember what you survived.
Remember what didn’t take you out.
Remember the doors God opened when you couldn’t see another way.
Remember the nights you questioned how you were going to make it…and somehow, you did.

Today’s Small Straws reminds us to pause and recognize the power of God that brought us to this point.

And maybe that’s what this Mental Monday is for.

Not quitting.
Not retreating.
Not beating yourself up because everything isn’t figured out yet.

Just recalibrating.

Ask yourself: What needs adjusting so I can keep moving forward without losing myself in the process?

Some things that carried you through one season may not be designed to accompany you into the next. And there’s nothing wrong with making adjustments when God is calling you higher.

1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we are chosen, royal, set apart and called out of darkness into His marvelous light.

So today, don’t measure your life only by what’s unfinished.

Look at how far the LIGHT has already brought you.

Take care of your mind today.
Protect your peace.
Make the necessary adjustments.
And keep moving.

You didn’t come this far just to come this far.

Happy Mental Monday. 🧠🙏🏾

SUNDAY DEVOTIONAL | TIE UP THE LOOSE ENDS 🙏🏾

Sometimes before God moves us forward, He allows us time to finish what’s still unfinished.

Loose ends don’t always mean you’re stuck. Sometimes they’re evidence that God is bringing closure to one season before He fully opens the next.

There are things that have to be settled.
Things that have to be released.
Things that have to be completed.
And some things you simply have to stop carrying.

But don’t mistake this season of tying up loose ends for a lack of progress.

You ARE moving forward.

God is ordering your steps even when you can’t see where the road leads. And every step—yes, even the uncomfortable ones—is preparing you for what’s ahead.

So don’t rush the process trying to get to “next.”

Finish what needs finishing.
Release what needs releasing.
Handle what’s in your hands TODAY.
And trust God with what you cannot see TOMORROW.

Because your labor wasn’t wasted.
Your prayers weren’t wasted.
Your tears weren’t wasted.
And your obedience certainly wasn’t wasted.

There is another chapter ahead—and God is preparing YOU for it just as much as He is preparing IT for you.

Stay steady.
Stay faithful.
Stay the course.

You’re not just closing a chapter… you’re being prepared for what comes after it.

📖 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:58

Sunday Prayer 🙏🏾
Lord, give me grace to finish this season well. Show me what needs my attention, what needs closure, and what needs to be released. Keep me from becoming anxious about what’s next. Help me trust Your timing, follow Your direction, and remain steadfast while You prepare me for the next phase of my journey. I believe that nothing I have endured, learned, or labored through has been in vain. Order my steps and bring me through to victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Happy Sunday! 🙏🏾
Finish well. God already knows what’s next.

☕️ SATURDAY SIPS SESSION

There are some things you’ll never hear clearly until you get quiet.

We spend so much time asking God for answers, direction, provision, confirmation… Lord, show me. Lord, fix it. Lord, make a way.

But sometimes the invitation isn’t to do anything.

It’s simply: Come sit with Me.

Matthew 6:6 reminds us that there is something sacred about the secret place. Shut the door. Turn down the noise. Put the phone down. Stop trying to figure everything out for a minute—and just BE with God.

Because the secret place isn’t where we escape reality.
It’s where we receive what we need to face it.

Direction comes there.
Peace comes there.
Clarity comes there.
And sometimes, the intervention we’ve been praying for begins there.

So while you’re sipping your coffee, tea—or whatever is in your cup this Saturday ☕️—give God a few uninterrupted minutes.

No performance.
No church language.
No long prayer required.

Just you and Him.

And maybe instead of asking Him for something today, simply say:

“Father, I’m here. Speak. I’m listening.”

Some doors don’t need to be forced open.
Some answers don’t need to be chased down.

Sometimes you just need to shut one door… and meet God in the secret place.

Happy Saturday, Family. Sip slow. Sit still. Listen closely. ☕️🙏🏾

THANKFUL THURSDAY THOUGHT 🙏🏾

Some seasons don’t feel like blessings while you’re living through them.

Things shift. People shift. Plans change. What once felt comfortable suddenly doesn’t fit anymore. And if we’re not careful, we’ll spend so much time fighting the adjustment that we miss what God is developing through it.

Today, I’m thankful for the adjustment.

Not because every part of it feels good—but because I’m beginning to understand that uncomfortable doesn’t always mean unfavorable. Sometimes God allows the discomfort because where He’s taking you requires a stronger, wiser, more spiritually mature version of you.

Romans 8:18 reminds us that what we’re enduring right now cannot compare to the glory that will eventually be revealed.

So instead of asking, “God, why is everything changing?” maybe the prayer becomes:

“God, help me adjust without losing my faith. Help me release what was, receive what is, and trust You with what’s next.”

I may still be adjusting… but I’m thankful I’m not where I used to be.

Happy Thankful Thursday! 🙏🏾

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
