Glendale Baptist Church

Glendale Baptist Church A caring community of equality and grace At Glendale Baptist Church, we embrace God’s love for everyone. We work to uphold the separation of church and state.

In a time when many churches still exclude women from ministry, we have called two women to serve as our pastors. We celebrate the fact that God’s call in our lives is not limited by sexual orientation or gender identity. Our community makes space for everyone, including people who identify as LGBTQIA+, and we rejoice in marriage equality for all persons. We seek to be accessible and inclusive, re

cognizing the variety of abilities and limitations we embody. Consequently, we welcome all of God’s children in worship, in leadership, and in service. What’s more, we take seriously the process of helping people discover their gifts and callings for ministry, as clergy and as lay leaders. Some may wonder how a church like Glendale can be Baptist, but we’re Baptists loud and proud. We treasure our right and duty to read the Bible for ourselves. We value the autonomy of the local church and affirm the priesthood of the believer. Because we hold to these four Baptist principles, we join with Baptists, past and present, who believe God’s love invites us to grow ever wider in our love. Our partnerships and affiliations, which demonstrate these commitments, include the Alliance of Baptists, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the BPFNA ~ Bautistas por la Paz, and the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists. If Glendale sounds like a place where you too can discover yourself and grow wider in your love of God’s creation, we hope you will join us on a Sunday morning or a Wednesday night. We also invite you to contact us to talk about Glendale and what it means to be part of “a caring community of equality and grace.”

Join us for Glendale’s Annual Ice Cream Supper on Sunday, June 7 from 4–6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Bring your family, bring a friend, and bring your favorite ice cream, topping, cookie, or dessert to share. Mostly, just come ready for good conversation, shared tables, and a sweet summer evening together with neighbors and friends.

During the gathering, we’ll also share a few updates and dreams for the future of Glendale’s building and grounds as we continue imagining how our spaces can better serve community life.

Enter through the door by the basketball goal. We’d love to see you there.

"It doesn’t make sense that they would look at you with suspicion for wanting to do good, does it? Yet they do. But I’m telling you, just because things are difficult doesn’t mean you’re not on the right path. Remember, you’re playing a different game than they are, so don’t fear what they fear. Don’t be intimidated by what intimidates them. Don’t let fear of looking strange or being excluded drive your decisions. We make our choices by the pattern of the Anointed, even when no one else understands. And when they ask you what you’re doing, just tell them the truth, and as best you can, do it with gentleness and respect. We can’t say we’re a people of love and then default to treating others with resentment and condescension. If they malign us, may it be a judgment on them, not us. We’re going to live in this tension with our neighbors either way, so it might as well be tense because we’re doing what’s right, not because we’re constantly bickering with them. Remember the pattern of the Anointed: that he loved us even when we were his enemies, in order that we might come to see the truth." —Based on a text from 1 Peter, paraphrased by
