We want to acknowledge an incident that was recently reported to the Mountain View Community Council.

New Hope Baptist Church's van and dumpster were vandalized with racist graffiti containing the N-word. This occurred on church property and was captured on video.

This is unacceptable.

In Mountain View we pride ourselves on being the diverse community that we are. People from different cultures, backgrounds, languages, and faith traditions have built a community together here. Because of that, an act of racial intimidation like this is especially disturbing.

This incident does not reflect the values of the Mountain View we know.

To the members of New Hope Baptist Church: many of your neighbors stand with you. We are grateful for your longstanding presence in our community and for the ways you continue to serve and care for the people who live here.

Racism has no place in Mountain View. Neither does vandalism directed at our neighbors. We can and must do better than this.
