“This Is Christianity”
What is a Christian? A question that quickly reveals if a person is trusting in their works or possesses true faith in Jesus. A response wrapped in a verb, a word of action or past Religious rite…they are trusting in their own works. A Christian is a person whose faith is only in Jesus as the payment for their sin.
Then what is Christianity? The popular vein of the culture is a “Christ Follower”. Someone who chooses Jesus and tries to emulate Him or His teachings. But how could you mimic God? How could depraved people make a divine move? Impossible.
Christianity is a sinful human resigning themselves to the futility of self salvation. It is the cry of a heart with no other option but Jesus. God is Just and I am just a sinner. But Jesus does it all for me. I have no where else to go.
The movie, ‘Officer and a Gentleman’ has little theological truth. One classic scene has the lead character responding to an attempt to get him to quit. His undaunted determination was challenged with : “Why don’t you quit.” He’s response: “I got no where else to go!” I have no other options.
That is Christianity. “I got no where else to go but Jesus!” I am not a follower with choices. I am a sinner who has no hope but Jesus. Where else could I go but to the Lord? I got nothing else but Jesus.
