The service will feature Maurice Duruflé’s beautiful and deeply moving Requiem, offering a moment of reflection, comfort and hope.

Coming up at Holy Trinity Cathedral

There’s plenty happening at the Cathedral as we move into November. Here are a few highlights from this week’s newsletter.

ALL SAINTS’ AND ALL SOULS’ DAY | Sunday 1 November
Join us for our 10am Choral Eucharist as we celebrate the lives and witness of the saints, and our 5pm All Souls’ Requiem Eucharist, featuring the beautiful and moving Requiem by French composer Maurice Duruflé. All are welcome at this special service of remembrance either in person or via the live stream.

HOLY SILENCE; HOLY NOISE | 7:30pm Mondays 2, 9 and 16 November
Our three-part Pre-Advent series continues in the Bishop Selwyn Chapel, exploring silence, speaking and singing, and their place in our lives and worship as we approach Advent.

WEDNESDAYS @ ONE | 1pm Wednesday 4 November
Join Katharine and Peter Watts for 'A Sweet Serenading,' the final concert in our popular spring series. Enjoy an afternoon of art song and poetry in the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral.

EXPLORING BENEDICTINE SPIRITUALITY | 7:30pm Thursday 12 November
An evening with Brother Bernard OHC, an Anglican Benedictine monk from the Order of the Holy Cross in New York, exploring how Benedictine spirituality can enrich and deepen our Christian journey. Free admission, registration required.

This week, as we mark ALL SAINTS' DAY and ALL SOULS' DAY, we are invited to reflect on the lives of those who have gone before us, and the enduring bond we share in Christ.

All Saints’ Day celebrates the saints throughout Christian history, both those remembered by name and the countless others whose faith has quietly shaped the Church. All Souls’ Day offers a time to remember those we have loved and lost, giving thanks for their lives and holding them in prayer.

We invite you to join us at Holy Trinity Cathedral this Sunday for:

Join us as we celebrate the lives and witness of the saints, and give thanks for the example they leave us.

Come and experience Merle Abbot’s vibrant paintings, celebrating colour, places, people and the beauty of everyday life. The exhibition is in Bishop Selwyn Chapel, with works on display from 10am–3pm Saturday 17 October.

Enjoy a piano duet recital with Kay Shacklock and Peter Watts, featuring music by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Milhaud.

All Souls’ Requiem Mass

COMING UP AT HOLY TRINITY CATHEDRAL

Our popular Wednesdays @ One lunchtime recital series returns next week, with the first recital on Wednesday 7 October at 1pm. Enjoy Yid-Ee Goh on violin and Lisa Chou on piano in the beautiful surroundings of Holy Trinity Cathedral. It’s a wonderful opportunity to pause in the middle of the week and experience live music in the heart of Auckland.

🌿 Season of Creation concludes this Sunday with Dr Andrew Clark-Howard, Advocacy Policy and Research Advisor at St John’s Theological College, joining our 8am and 10am Eucharists. The 10am service will be livestreamed as we continue to reflect on our relationship with creation, our common home and one another.

🎹 Wednesdays @ One returns! Our popular lunchtime recital series begins Wednesday 7 October, with live music in the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral. From brilliant young musicians to accomplished performers, there will be plenty to enjoy throughout October and into November.

🙏 Baptism and Confirmation - Are you considering baptism for yourself or your child? Or would you like to explore confirming your faith or renewing your confirmation vows? We would love to hear from you. Contact Dean Anne or Reverend Tony to find out more.

🎹 WEDNESDAYS @ ONE - SPRING SERIES
From Wednesday 7 October, our popular lunchtime recital series returns with a spring piano extravaganza. A variety of talented artists will showcase the beauty and colour of our magnificent Kawai Grand Piano, offering a chance to pause, enjoy outstanding live music and experience the Cathedral in a different way. Entry is by koha, supporting the Cathedral’s music programme.

🌿SEASON OF CREATION
Season of Creation continues this Sunday, with Dr Lynn Wytenbroek, People’s Warden and Trustee of Te Hiku Connect, joining our 8am and 10am Eucharists. Through September, guest speakers from a range of backgrounds are helping us reflect on Christian faith, creation, our common home and one another. The 10am Eucharist will also be livestreamed.

🙏 BAPTISM AND CONFIRMATION
If you are considering baptism for yourself or your child, Dean Anne and Reverend Tony would be delighted to hear from you. Reverend Tony is also leading Confirmation Conversations for those wishing to explore or confirm their faith, or renew their confirmation vows. Please get in touch to find out more.

Coming up at Holy Trinity Cathedral

What a beautiful Choral Evensong we shared last week, with the New Zealand Youth Choir joining us at Holy Trinity Cathedral. We're grateful to everyone who joined us in person and online and especially to the choir conducted by Rowan Johnston and accompanied by Michael Stewart. If you missed it, you can catch up with the live stream and experience the service from wherever you are.

For those who stopped at our prayer station for Nepal and Tibet, even briefly, may that moment of stillness have been a small expression of solidarity with the people of Nepal and Tibet, and a reminder that compassion can cross borders, cultures and distances. May we continue to hold all those affected by the floods in our prayers

There’s plenty more happening at the Cathedral this September and beyond.

THE SEASON OF CREATION
Throughout September, join us for a special series of Sunday Eucharists exploring our relationship with creation, our common home and one another.
This Sunday, 13 September, we welcome Millie Vette, Eco-church Regional Coordinator for the Upper North Island with A Rocha, speaking at the 8am and 10am Eucharists.

As part of our Season of Creation celebrations, we’re encouraging everyone to wear a name badge at Sunday services. It might seem like a small thing, but knowing someone’s name can make it much easier to introduce ourselves, start a conversation and welcome someone we don’t yet know.
