THE CHOIRS
Holy Trinity Cathedral Choir, Diocesan School for Girls Chapel Choir (Junior School), Auckland Boys’ Choir with commentary by Christine Nelson.

ABOUT THE WORK
Derived from the Book of Daniel, Benedicite is a song of praise offered bythree young men saved from the fiery furnace:
“O all ye works of the Lord, bless ye the Lord, praise him and magnify him forever.”

Andrew Carter’s setting brings this ancient text to life with imagination and charm, including additional verses for children’s voices—featuring creatures great and small, from hedgehogs to dragonflies, alongside the familiar wonders of creation.

🕯️Step into the stillness and light of the Great Easter Vigil at Holy Trinity Cathedral at 8pm. 🕯️

Beginning in darkness, this ancient and powerful liturgy traces the story of salvation through scripture and music, before moving into the first celebration of Easter. The lighting of the new fire, the Paschal candle, and the return of light to the Cathedral mark the turning point from Good Friday to the joy of the Resurrection.

This is one of the most moving and symbolic services of the Christian year.

Join us as we keep watch, reflect, and celebrate the risen Christ.

At Holy Trinity Cathedral, Holy Week is a deeply meaningful time of reflection and celebration.

The week begins with Palm Sunday, marking Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. On Maundy Thursday, we remember the Last Supper, where Jesus shared the Eucharist with his disciples and demonstrated humility by washing their feet. Good Friday is a solemn day of prayer and reflection on Christ’s suffering and crucifixion. Holy Saturday invites quiet contemplation, as we await the joy of Easter. Our journey culminates with the joyous celebration of Easter Day, when we rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus, affirming the hope of new life and the promise of eternal life.

Throughout Holy Week and Easter, we invite all to join us in worship, reflection, and renewal, as we experience the depth of God's love and grace in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
