Barnabas Aid is an international Christian aid agency that supports churches, communities and individuals who are suffering or facing persecution and discrimination because of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. By raising awareness of the urgent needs of the suffering Church around the world, we seek to inspire Christians to pray and to give in support of our brothers and sisters in Christ. We

work in close partnership with local churches and trusted Christian ministries in some of the world’s most challenging contexts. By funding and supporting projects that are developed and led locally, we strengthen their work and help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of suffering and persecuted believers.

"And in a country where Christians are literally being massacred daily, the courage they have to gather in a large group and worship like this... is basically putting a target on their back."

Richard tells us about the humbling and inspiring experience of visiting this church in a displaced Mozambican settlement.

These believers gather in a country where Christians face daily persecution; their courage is extraordinary. They have laboured to build this church with the only available materials they can gather, whilst enduring hot temperatures and depending on the Lord for their next meal; the sound of their worship rises to the ears of the Father with joy and dancing (Matthew 6:31-33).

Colin Bloom, the International Chief Executive Officer of Barnabas Aid, was among the Christian leaders who spoke at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, on 30 May at a special choral eveningsong held to honour the people of Iran, many of whom have lost their lives in recent protests and conflict.

“We remember especially our Iranian Christian brothers and sisters,” he told the congregation, which included hundreds of UK-based Iranian believers. “For many Christians in Iran, faith is not merely a private conviction. It can come at profound personal cost.”

Bloom added: “To follow Christ may mean rejection, surveillance, intimidation, imprisonment, or isolation. Many worship quietly and courageously, their Bibles hidden, their gatherings in secret, often unseen by the world, yet fully seen by God, and remembered by us.”

Islamist terrorists have claimed the killing of 57 Christians in a week-long spate of violence in the Beni region of North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) that began on 25 May.

Instability caused by terrorism and armed conflict is severely hampering emergency response efforts following confirmation of the Ebola outbreak in the region on 15 May.

Islamic State Central Africa Province has massacred at least 1,100 Christians in north-eastern DRC in the last 18 months.

Glorious triune God, we celebrate Your perfect unity that has drawn millions to repentance, faith and baptism in Your name.

We pray that You will perfect Your Church in unity and direct Your people to work together for the furtherance of Your kingdom.

We ask that Your presence will strengthen those living in parts of the world where they are not free to speak Your truth openly. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all who trust in You, for we ask in Your precious name.

The fundraising effort was topped off with a celebration dinner featuring pink pig décor, patty cakes and presentation certificates.

Thank you, Pastor Colin Russell and Mrs Jeanette Nicolle, for your work on behalf of suffering Christians throughout this fundraiser. We appreciate your creativity and compassion!

Through your donations, Barnabas Aid has supported the professional development of 315 Christian teachers in crucial subjects in Myanmar.

Teachers from different schools were trained in child psychology, teaching methodology, classroom management, administration, education systems around the world, government school curriculum, and the Church’s responsibility in public education.

This project has strengthened the Church's role in the education sector and benefited an estimated 6,000 students from crisis-affected rural areas.
