Barnabas Aid is an international Christian aid agency that supports churches, communities and individuals who are suffering or facing persecution and discrimination because of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. By raising awareness of the urgent needs of the suffering Church around the world, we seek to inspire Christians to pray and to give in support of our brothers and sisters in Christ. We

work in close partnership with local churches and trusted Christian ministries in some of the world’s most challenging contexts. By funding and supporting projects that are developed and led locally, we strengthen their work and help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of suffering and persecuted believers.

Join us for a powerful day of worship, faith and insight as we gather at Encourage 2026!

After a time of worship, you will be welcomed by our Chairman, Michael Hewat, before learning about our ministry from International CEO, Colin Bloom. The morning will close with a thought-provoking session from Steffan Jones on the persecuted Church.

Throughout the afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to hear our project partners speak about their faithful experiences on the front lines around the world.

The day concludes with opportunities to meet the leadership team, gain insight into the global impact of Barnabas Aid's projects, and join together in worship and prayer.

"The Lord never forgets His children,” said the beneficiary of a recent Barnabas-funded project that provided six months supply of food for 150 Christian families in Pakistan.

Although Egypt has seen encouraging progress, including the legal recognition of thousands of churches, many Egyptian Christians continue to face uncertainty and live in fear of targeted attacks.

Christian women and girls in northern and Middle Belt Nigeria are among those at risk of severe abuses, according to a report published by human rights experts.

These abuses include abduction, sexual violence, forced marriage and forced conversion to Islam.

In Iran, Farsi (Persian)-speaking Christians are converts from Islam and therefore punished as apostates in line with sharia (Islamic law). The authorities often charge converts with “acting against national security”, and many believers are held in prisons where they suffer serious mistreatment and abuse.

Because worship in Farsi is forbidden, Christian converts must meet in secret.

Heavenly Father, we bring before You believers in Eritrea who follow Christ amid hardship and persecution.

Strengthen our brothers and sisters with Your Holy Spirit as they worship You in secret. Give courage and hope to all Christians who are imprisoned in desperate and inhuman conditions, never knowing when, or if, they will be freed.

We pray that the light of Your Word will overcome the darkness in Eritrea, so that all who believe in You can worship without fear, for we ask it in our Saviour’s glorious name.

Today we mark St Barnabas Day, giving thanks for the life and witness of Barnabas in the early Church.

We are named after Barnabas, whose name means “son of encouragement” (Acts 4:36).

In Scripture, he is described as “a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith” (Acts 11:24), who strengthened and exhorted believers in their walk with Christ. He played a vital role in building trust within the early Church, notably welcoming Paul and advocating for him when others were hesitant (Acts 9:26–27).

His ministry of encouragement, generosity, and reconciliation continues to shape our identity and calling. Like Barnabas, we seek to stand alongside the suffering and persecuted Church, offering practical support, advocacy, and hope in Christ (Hebrews 10:24–25). We are committed to strengthening the body of Christ, reminding believers that they are not alone and that God remains faithful in every trial.

On this St Barnabas Day, we give thanks for his legacy and pray that we would faithfully reflect his spirit of encouragement in all we do, for the glory of God.

Students involved with Lincoln University Christian Fellowship in New Zealand recently had an epic idea: raise funds to purchase goats for displaced Christians in Mozambique by selling toastie sandwiches on campus.

With a range of toppings – including ham and spaghetti – the group made 105 toasties on the night, and the $118.25 in profits went to Barnabas Aid.

Lincoln University Christian Fellowship has a big heart for caring for students on campus and regularly provides toasties late at night – serving from 9pm to 1am! But this time, the profits went to suffering Christians.

"The team was challenged after hearing from Barnabas and what is going on around the world," said Chris, Lincoln Team Leader of the Christian Fellowship. "It was one small thing they could do as a club is devote a toasties night to raise funds for Barnabas to try to help the persecuted Church."
