"Stephen: The Anointed Witness" - Sunday 31 May 2026

By Pastor Malcolm Macqueen

Date: Sunday 31 May 2026
Main Bible Verse: Acts 6:8

Overview

In this powerful Pentecost follow-up message, Pastor Malcolm challenged believers to consider the life of Stephen, the first Christian martyr, as an example of Spirit-filled service, bold witness and unwavering faithfulness. Stephen's life demonstrates that God often begins His work in us through humble service before leading us into greater responsibilities.

The sermon explored Stephen under three distinct roles: the Holistic Waiter, the Powerful Witness and the Fearless Warrior. Through each stage of Stephen's life, we see a believer who was completely surrendered to God's purposes, willing to serve wherever needed and prepared to pay the ultimate price for his faith.

The message reminds us that God is not merely looking for gifted people. He is looking for faithful people who are willing to serve, witness and stand firm regardless of opposition. Stephen's life proves that ordinary acts of obedience can become extraordinary testimonies when empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Malcolm encouraged the congregation not to overlook the importance of seemingly small ministries. Stephen began by serving neglected widows, yet because he served wholeheartedly as unto the Lord, God entrusted him with a powerful public ministry that continues to inspire Christians over two thousand years later.

Ultimately, Stephen's example calls every believer to become a fearless witness for Christ in today's world, keeping their eyes fixed upon Jesus regardless of circumstances, criticism or opposition.

Inspirational Takeaway

Stephen's story teaches us that God values faithfulness more than prominence. He began as a servant caring for widows and ended as one of the most influential witnesses in the New Testament.

Whether your role seems large or small, visible or hidden, God can use your obedience to touch countless lives. The same Holy Spirit who empowered Stephen is available to every believer today.

The challenge of this sermon is simple yet profound:

- Will you be a witness for Christ in 2026?

Sermon Summary – Thirsting for the Holy Spirit

Preacher: Pastor Malcolm Macqueen

Date: Sunday 24th May 2026 – Pentecost Sunday
Main Bible Reading: Acts 2:1–4
Church: KCC AoG Church, Old Town, Swindon

Pastor Malcolm delivered a stirring Pentecost message centred on the deep spiritual need for believers to hunger and thirst for the Holy Spirit. Drawing from Acts chapters 1 and 2, he reflected on the ten days between Christ’s ascension and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, highlighting how the disciples positioned themselves to receive God’s promise.

The sermon focused on four key actions taken by the disciples in the upper room: they hungered for the things of God, continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, searched the Scriptures and positioned themselves in divine order. Pastor Malcolm challenged the congregation with the sobering reality that although more than 500 followers saw the risen Christ, only around 120 remained waiting in the upper room. Hunger for God, he explained, separates casual followers from committed seekers.

He powerfully connected the Day of Pentecost to both Old Testament prophecy and the promises of Jesus, reminding the church that the Holy Spirit was not only promised by Christ but also prophesied centuries earlier by Joel. The message stressed that the Holy Spirit is still for believers today and not merely for the early church.

Pastor Malcolm also outlined important prerequisites for receiving the Holy Spirit. Believers must be born again, spiritually thirsty, free from doubt and willing to receive by faith. He repeatedly encouraged the church not to rely on self-sufficiency or human ability, but to depend fully upon the enabling power of the Holy Spirit.

The sermon concluded with a passionate appeal for believers to seek their own personal Pentecost experience. The Holy Spirit was presented not simply as doctrine, but as the living presence and power of God that transforms lives, empowers witness and equips Christians for service. It was an uplifting and faith-filled reminder that God still desires to pour out His Spirit upon hungry hearts today.

Key Discussion Points / Personal Reflection
1. How hungry am I for the things of God?

The disciples waited expectantly because they truly desired what God had promised. Am I actively pursuing more of God, or have I become spiritually comfortable?

2. What role does prayer play in preparing my heart?

The upper room believers continued in prayer and supplication. How consistent and sincere is my prayer life?

3. Am I relying too much on my own strength?

The sermon challenged modern self-sufficiency. In what areas am I trying to do God’s work without depending on the Holy Spirit?

4. Do I truly believe God’s promises are still for today?

The message reminded listeners that the promise of the Holy Spirit is “for all whom the Lord our God shall call”. Do I live with expectation?

5. What evidence of the Holy Spirit is visible in my life?

The disciples were empowered to witness boldly. Is there spiritual fruit, boldness and transformation evident in my walk with Christ?

Overview

Pastor Malcolm delivered a powerful and thoughtful message centred on the 40 days between Christ’s resurrection and ascension. Drawing from Acts 1:1–3, he reminded the church that while believers can easily become consumed with daily pressures and personal circumstances, there are monumental truths in the life of Jesus that must never be forgotten.

The sermon explored how these 40 days were not empty waiting days but deeply purposeful days. Jesus spent this time reconnecting with His followers, revealing spiritual truth, calling His disciples to renewed commitment and ultimately ascending in glory to the Father’s right hand. The message was both doctrinal and deeply personal, encouraging believers to grow in intimacy with Christ and remain committed to His calling.

Pastor Malcolm highlighted several biblical examples of “40 days” or “40 years”, showing how the number often marked seasons of testing, revelation, instruction or transformation. From Noah’s flood, to Moses on Mount Sinai, to Jesus in the wilderness, every season carried significance. Yet the 40 days after the resurrection were unique because they demonstrated undeniable proof that Jesus had conquered death.

One of the strongest themes throughout the sermon was that Jesus is still a “people’s Saviour”. He reconnects with broken, confused and discouraged people just as He did with Mary Magdalene, the disciples on the Emmaus Road and Peter by the Sea of Galilee. Pastor Malcolm passionately reminded the church that Jesus never gives up on people, even when others do.

The sermon also focused heavily on recommitment. Using John 21, Pastor Malcolm explained how Jesus challenged Peter in three areas:

- “Do you love Me?”
- “Will you work with Me?”
- “Will you follow Me?”

Believers were encouraged to move beyond shallow affection for God into wholehearted devotion and mature discipleship. The challenge was clear: Christianity is not merely about attending church or hearing sermons, but about loving Christ deeply, serving His people faithfully and following wherever He leads.

The message concluded with a triumphant reflection on the ascension of Jesus. Pastor Malcolm described it as profound, powerful and pre-eminent. Jesus ascended victorious, seated at the Father’s right hand above every principality and power. Because Christ is victorious, believers today can also live in victory through Him.

This sermon was a stirring reminder that the risen Christ is alive, active and still calling His people into deeper relationship, clearer revelation and stronger commitment.

Key Sermon Themes
1. 40 Days of Reconnection

Jesus intentionally reconnected with His followers after the resurrection:

- Mary Magdalene in the garden
- The disciples on the Emmaus Road
- The disciples in the Upper Room
- Thomas
- The seven disciples at Galilee
- Paul and many others

Main Insight:
Jesus does not abandon His people. He continues to pursue, restore and reconnect with those who are discouraged, fearful or confused.

2. 40 Days of Revelation

Jesus opened the understanding of His disciples so they could truly understand the Scriptures.

Main Insight:
Believers need Holy Spirit revelation, not merely information. The Word of God explains the past, guides the present and reveals the future.

3. Days of Recommitment

Jesus challenged Peter regarding love, service and obedience.

Main Insight:
True commitment flows out of relationship with Christ. Love for Jesus produces service, maturity and faithful discipleship.

4. The Day of Ascension

Jesus ascended in power and glory and now reigns at the Father’s right hand.

Main Insight:
Christ’s victory is the believer’s victory. Through Him, we are spiritually seated in heavenly places and can live confidently in His authority.

Discussion Points / Personal Reflection
- Why do you think Jesus prioritised reconnecting with people after His resurrection?
- What areas of your life need fresh revelation from the Holy Spirit?
- When Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love Me?”, what would your honest response be today?
- What does it mean practically to “work with” Jesus rather than merely “work for” Him?
- Are there areas where God is calling you to deeper commitment or obedience?
- How does Christ’s ascension strengthen your confidence as a believer?
- Pastor Malcolm said Jesus is “a people’s Saviour”. How have you personally experienced His patience and restoration?

When God opens your eyes, everything changes. Your worldview changes. Your heart changes. Your direction changes.

“Were not our hearts burning within us while He opened the scriptures to us?”

This sermon will stir your hunger for God’s presence and His Word.

📖 Sermon Summary

Sermon Title: Blessings in the Presence of God
Main Bible Verse: Psalm 91:1
Date: Sunday, 26th April 2026

Ministered by: Brother Simon Baboo

Drawing from both Scripture and spiritual insight, and supported by the presentation slides , Brother Simon delivers a deeply stirring message centred on one truth: everything a believer truly needs is found in the presence of God.

Right from the beginning, the sermon reminds us that God has always desired fellowship with humanity. From the Garden of Eden to the life of David, we see a consistent longing from God to dwell with His people. Yet, it is often sin, guilt, or distraction that causes us to withdraw, not God stepping away.

The heart of the message unfolds through four powerful blessings found in God’s presence.

First comes rest. Not just physical rest, but a deep spiritual rest. There’s a difference, you see. One is given freely when we come to Christ, and the other is found as we walk with Him daily, submitting to His will. It’s the difference between being set free and then learning to live free. Many believers stop at receiving, but God calls us to grow into that deeper rest.

Then there is fullness of joy. Not temporary happiness, not something that fades by Monday morning, but a joy that fills every part of who we are. A joy so real, so full, that like the man in the story shared, you simply can’t contain it. It’s not about outward things, but about being saturated in God’s presence.

Thirdly, the presence of God becomes a weapon. A powerful, unseen force where battles are won not by effort but by God Himself. Just as Psalm 9:3 declares, enemies fall and perish in His presence. Whether it’s fear, sickness, or spiritual struggle, bringing it before God changes everything. The battle shifts.

And finally, there is the secret place. A place of protection, intimacy, and transformation. It’s in that quiet, hidden time with God that real change happens. Not on the surface, but deep within. And ultimately, this secret life with God leads to an open reward, eternal fellowship with Him.

So the call is simple, yet challenging: don’t just visit God’s presence occasionally. Live in it. Because in His presence, there is rest, joy, victory, and transformation.

💬 Discussion Points / Personal Reflection
- What is the difference between receiving rest from God and living in that rest daily?
- Are there areas in your life where you are trying to “earn” God’s favour instead of simply coming to Him?
- How often do you intentionally seek the presence of God in your daily routine?
- What “battles” do you need to bring into God’s presence instead of trying to fight alone?
- Are you cultivating a “secret place” with God, or is your spiritual life mostly public and surface-level?

Title: Finding Favour in the Sight of God

Main Bible Verse: Hebrews 4:16
Date: Sunday 19th April 2026
Preacher: Brother Simon Baboo

Brother Simon delivered a thoughtful and stirring message on how believers can find favour in the sight of God, not through human effort or outward success, but through the right spiritual choices. Drawing from Hebrews 4:16, he reminded the church that God invites His people to come boldly to the throne of grace, where mercy and help are always available in times of need.

The sermon opened with Brother Simon sharing his own recent season of illness, sleepless nights and struggle. Yet in the middle of pain, God placed this message on his heart. That testimony gave weight to the message: favour is not found when life is easy, but often when we choose God in difficult seasons.

Using examples from Scripture, he showed how ordinary people found favour because of their choices. Noah chose to walk with God in a corrupt generation. Moses chose God’s presence over blessings and promises. Ruth chose obedience and submission, even when it was uncomfortable. The thief on the cross chose to recognise Jesus as Lord while others mocked Him. Each person made a decision that pleased the heart of God.

A strong challenge was given to every believer: what choice are you making today? Are you choosing prayer, surrender, holiness and the presence of God, or are you only chasing earthly things? Brother Simon stressed that spiritual blessings matter more than material gain, and eternal things must shape our decisions.

He also used the picture of two fig trees. One stood by the roadside and withered. The other stood in the vineyard and received another chance because someone interceded for it. The lesson was clear: stay in God’s vineyard, stay connected to the church, and value the prayers of faithful believers.

The sermon closed with a heartfelt call to become people of intercession, praying for families, children, the church and those in need.

This message was both searching and encouraging. It reminds us that favour with God is not accidental. It is found when we choose Him daily. If you want more of God’s grace, presence and purpose in your life, this is a sermon worth hearing in full.
