Last week, we witnessed a beautiful celebration of life ceremony at our Markfield site, and with the family’s kind permission we’d like to share some moments as a beautiful example of the personal and intimate services we welcome at all of our natural burial sites.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate the life of a beloved couple; parents to some, grandparents to others, friends to all.

There were photographs from their life, flowers, and champagne to toast them. Family and friends spent time talking, remembering, sharing stories and memories.

At Tithe Green, there is no rush. You are welcome to honour your person, or people, in whatever way feels right for you, like this family did so beautifully.

Thank you again to the family for allowing us to capture and share some moments from this important day.

A moment of appreciation for our Markfield site in full bloom. 🌱 Swipe through for some before & afters.

The Markfield site became part of the Tithe Green family in August 2024. We kept work minimal - seeking only to enhance the natural beauty of the site and ensure it was a peaceful place for friends & family to honour loved ones. We stripped back the brambles, scattered wildflower seeds, and extended the car park to accommodate more visitors.

Today, our Markfield site is full of wildflowers, lush long grasses, and hedgerows teeming with wildlife. We’re so proud of how it’s looking, and it’s lovely to hear from regular visitors how pleased they are too.

If you’re local, you’re more than welcome to explore our Markfield site - open all day, every day (four legged friends on leads welcome too).

A gentle reminder as we move into the warmer months to continue watering your memorial tree if you can. 🌳

Newly planted trees need time to develop their root systems in new environments. Regular watering (and time) can encourage the roots to grow and establish themselves, which in turn means the tree will be more successful finding water.

You can check on the health of your tree by using a nail or key to scrape away some bark at the base. If it’s green, it’s good. You can contact our office if you’re worried about the health of your tree and our site managers will take a look.

Flower of the month: cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris) 🌱

A staple of the British summertime, cow parsley is everywhere. From the verges alongside busy main roads to lush countryside hedgerows, it is distinctive for its lacy little flowers and fern-like leaves.

Part of the Apiaceae (or carrot) family, cow parsley is one of many “umbelliferous” wildflowers in the UK - a group which gets its name from the way their flowerheads (known as “umbels”) radiate outwards from a single point, like the ribs of an umbrella.

Today is 🐝

A day that encourages us to acknowledge, share, and talk about the vital role of bees and other pollinators in the ecosystems around us.

The association and recommend five easy things we can do to help the bees:

🌱 Grow more flowers, shrubs and trees, especially pollen- and nectar-rich native plants.
🌱 Don’t overly tend the land - let parts of your garden be wild. For example, take part in and let your grass grow longer - some bees nest in clumps of grass or feed on flowers that could be considered weeds (like dandelions).
🌱 Bees need water, especially in hot weather. A shallow dish filled with pebbles or stones and topped with water gives the bees somewhere to land so they can drink without falling in or becoming trapped.
🌱 Try not to disturb nests and hibernation spots - or create some from old bits of wood, bricks, or plant pots.
🌱 Avoid using pesticides or other chemicals on your garden.

All practices we stand by here at Tithe Green - today and every day.

We are very excited to announce that this June we will be welcoming the wonderful Chris Hines, co-founder of Surfers Against Sewage, to our natural burial ground in Oxton for an evening of optimism and community.

You might recognise Chris from his inspiring activism, which has helped to shape environmental action across the UK and beyond, or from Channel 4’s recent documentary, Dirty Business.

Chris’ inspiring talk will explore “intelligent activism” - how we can protect the places that we love and help to shape a more sustainable future.

Follow the link below to find out more about the event and secure your place. Tickets limited.

At Tithe Green, we are forever exploring the relationship between nature and remembrance, grieving, and love. Our workshops, hosted throughout the years, are part of this exploration, inviting people to spend time with us at our burial grounds, where life and death exist in harmony.

Recently, we were joined by the wonderful team from Sutton Lodge flowers, who guided us through creating wildflower flay-lays that could be laid atop a grave as a way of honouring a loved one. Attendees could choose to take theirs home - a piece created at our burial ground, perhaps in remembrance of someone no longer here.

The opportunity to gather as a community, to work with nature, to honour the wildlife around us, and to quietly remember someone we miss, is something we are deeply grateful for.

We still have tickets remaining for our Ketton wildflower workshop this Friday. To stay up to date with news and events from Tithe Green, join our private Facebook Community Group or subscribe to our newsletter. Just head to the link in our bio.

Let’s keep talking 🤍

06/05/2026

This week marks Dying Matters Awareness Week, an annual campaign by HospiceUK which aims to break the stigma around death, dying and grief.

This year’s theme, “let’s talk about death and dying” is something close to our hearts at Tithe Green. From monthly grief groups in partnership with local therapists to chatting to people on site or on the phone, we’re passionate about helping to create a more open culture in which we are more comfortable talking about death.

Part of this is talking about our own death, and what our wishes are when the time comes. We might not be ready to set a formal plan in place, but even just talking about what we want after we die can go a long way, meaning family and friends aren’t left completely in the dark.

For more information, head to our website or speak to one of our team directly on 01623 677 100.
