“Activism is the rent we pay for living on the planet… And our rent is overdue.”
Chris Hines, co-founder of , former Sustainability Director at , and renowned climate activist, joined us this week at our Nottinghamshire burial site to talk about his career campaigning for the planet and how we can all do our bit to protect the places we love.
“I feel that we are quite close to a flip from the negative version of the world to the positive version of it”, said Chris, referencing The 89 Percent Project by , which interviewed 130,000 people worldwide and found that 89% felt that the climate crisis was the number one priority governments should be addressing. Crucially, though, all of these people felt they were in the minority.
It can feel as though we are one drop in the ocean, unable to affect the direction of the tide. But as author David Mitchell writes in his bestselling novel Cloud Atlas, “What is any ocean but a multitude of drops?”
