A statement from the Elim Church in Ireland regarding current events in the Province.
Like many across our community, we have been horrified by the appalling attack that occurred in North Belfast on Monday evening. In response, the Elim Pentecostal Church calls on our church families and the wider Christian Community to pray for our country. We particularly pray for Stephen Ogilvie's recovery, for his family and for all those who witnessed the attack and have been impacted by it. We pray for justice, peace, and protection from such acts of evil.
Likewise, we unequivocally condemn the scenes of destruction, violence and fear witnessed across Northern Ireland last night. We pray for those displaced from their homes; for peace on our streets and the protection of our communities; for wisdom and protection for our police service, fire service and others working to keep us all safe; for wisdom for those who can influence our communities to stop this destruction and violence. We also pray for pastors and church leaders as they serve our communities across Northern Ireland.
We are thankful for the rich tapestry of people who call Northern Ireland home, who contribute to our society in a wide range of meaningful ways and we celebrate the diversity and beauty of our church communities and wider society. We acknowledge concerns around government policy on immigration but violence is never the answer.
We pray that those in Government will act justly and wisely as they respond to all that is happening in Northern Ireland and that just and lasting solutions will be found to the challenges we are facing.
A prayer for Northern Ireland
Where there is fear, grant peace.
Where there is pain, bring healing.
Where there is anger, establish justice.
Where there is division, bring reconciliation.
Where there is hatred, sow love.
Where there is darkness, let Your light shine.
May Your peace prevail in our communities and Your will be done in our land.
