Fairfield United

Fairfield United inclusive. sacred. authentic. Fairfield United Church: The spirited heart of historic Fairfield.

Since 1912, Fairfield United has been the neighbourhood’s space to deepen relationships, celebrate belonging and create meaning. We believe a community of all ages, family styles and genders living together is sacred and authentic. By weaving ancient and modern Christian rhythms into our lives, we experience what matters every day and are empowered to make a difference in the world. We are affilia

ted and supported by The United Church of Canada, the British Columbia Conference, and Victoria Presbytery.

Culturally-supportive homes are on the way in Victoria.

Construction has started on 34 new homes for First Nations, Inuit and Métis people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Located at 938 Mason St., the Wellness House will offer safe, affordable homes and support services under one roof.

The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society will operate the building. Staff will be on site 24 hours a day. Residents will have access to meals, health supports, life-skills training and connections to local services.

Elders, Knowledge Keepers and people with lived experience will help guide the supports and programs offered in the building.

The new homes are expected to open in early 2028.

Thank you to our partners Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness, and City of Victoria - Local Government for coming .

Fairfield United Church is proud to continue supporting Greater Victoria Acting Together (GVAT).

Recently, members of our community joined more than 100 people from across Greater Victoria—people of different faiths, backgrounds, and experiences—who came together to advocate for meaningful climate action.

Current priorities include giving local governments greater authority to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing buildings, encouraging higher zero-carbon building standards for new construction, and advancing a “right to cool” so renters have access to safe indoor temperatures during extreme heat events.

One of the most memorable lines from the gathering was:

“Institutions respond to statistics. Citizens respond to stories.”

That is what makes GVAT so powerful. People coming together, sharing their stories, and discovering that collective action can make a difference. We are grateful to be part of this work and to stand alongside others seeking a more just, sustainable, and hopeful future for our region.

Happy birthday, Neil, building manager extraordinaire United Commons. We appreciate you.

June is indigenous history month

June is Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the histories, teachings, resilience and ongoing contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Turtle Island.
To begin this month, we are reflecting on the sacred teachings of the Medicine Wheel — a framework of balance, connection, cycles and wholeness that reminds us that all things are interconnected.
As we continue to grow as an organization, we are deepening our relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities while learning from Indigenous ways of knowing, being and understanding the world around us. The Medicine Wheel teaches us that healing happens through relationship to self, community, Spirit, the land and one another.
Throughout June, we will also explore each direction of the Medicine Wheel alongside animal teachings and reflections connected to each one.
