WHY A 100-YEAR-OLD CLASSROOM IS FAILING YOUR KID
The best education we can offer our kids should be innovative. Step back 100 years in almost any field, manufacturing, farming, a car plant, and it looks wildly different today.
Walk into a typical classroom today, though, and it largely looks the way it did back then: children at desks, listening to a teacher speak from the front, consuming the knowledge given to them.
That model is failing this generation. It leaves them without the quick, critical thinking skills they need to navigate a world where it's hard to know what's even true.
Most of us know an adult who shares things from the internet that aren't even real, and they can't tell the difference. If grown adults can't spot it, how do our eight-year-olds know what's real when they watch something on a phone?
The internet felt disruptive, then came social media, and now this generation is grappling with AI iterating at a mind-blowing pace.
Stick with a traditional education, and we risk sending them into the world with a toolbox full of tools that don't work on the problems their generation needs to solve.
We're doing them a disservice if we don't rethink which tools go in that toolbox: adaptable tools, multi-tools instead of single-use ones, and teaching them to create tools of their own.
