What happened on Good Friday and why is it GOOD?
Maybe it seems strange that we call the day Jesus was crucified and brutally murdered “Good Friday”, but here’s why...
We remember today that Christ died on the cross BECAUSE He was taking the punishment we deserve for our sin. Jesus died in our place as the only perfect man who has ever lived, whilst also being fully God. He did this so that we don’t have to die and suffer for eternity under God’s righteous justice.
“He became sin who knew no sin” (2 Cor. 5:21) so that we could be cleansed and forgiven through His blood, have eternal life in Him, and peace with God the Father! He loved us so much that He did this while we were His enemies. Do you see now why we call this day “Good Friday”? There is no greater love than this! This is true, sacrificial, unconditional love. Thank you Jesus for what you did today!
