When Jesus is asked to name the greatest commandment, his answer is simple: love God with all that you are, and love your neighbour as yourself. Everything else hangs on these. This Sunday, as we also come to the end of Moses’ long journey, we’ll consider what a life shaped by that kind of love can look like. God’s abundant love isn’t something we simply believe in, it is something we practice, share, and pass on. We are given plenty of things to worry about, argue about, and divide ourselves over, but Jesus keeps bringing us back to the heart of it all: love God, love your neighbour. Love matters the most!

This Thanksgiving Sunday, we take a break from Exodus to hear Paul’s invitation to “rejoice in the Lord always,” bringing our prayers and gratitude to God and turning our attention toward what is true, good, and worthy of praise. And in Jesus’ parable of the wedding banquet, we’ll encounter a God whose invitation is wider than we might expect, but comes with expectations. We’ll explore gratitude as more than counting our blessings, but as a practice and habit that helps us notice God’s abundance, receive it with joy, and make room at the table for others.

We will have some great Thanksgiving music to recognize the day, with both the Celebration Choir and the Hims of Praise singing during the service, and classic Thanksgiving hymns for all of us. The chancel will be decorated for Thanksgiving, too, so come along and celebrate with thanks!

This Sunday we’ll be celebrating World Communion Sunday, a tradition almost 100 years old. Christians around the world celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of October as a way to promote Christian unity and cooperation. Have your bread and juice/w**e ready if you’re worshiping online and join with us as we celebrate togetherness in Jesus. We’ll also be exploring what fruitfulness means with regard to laws and covenants.

What does faith look like when life doesn’t give us much reason to trust? In the wilderness, the Israelites are thirsty and afraid, asking a deeply human question, “Is the Lord among us or not?” In Matthew, Jesus tells the story of two sons whose actions reveal more than their words. Together, these stories remind us that faith is more than saying the right things or having unwavering certainty. Abundant faith can include questions, doubts, and even changes of heart. What matters is that we keep turning toward God and taking the next faithful step—trusting that God is still present, even in the wilderness.

God makes a way through the sea, leading the Israelites into freedom. In Matthew, Jesus tells the story of a servant who receives extraordinary mercy but struggles to extend that same mercy to another. Together, these stories invite us to consider the abundance of God’s grace and what it means to live differently because of it.

Picnics don’t last forever. The blankets are folded, the baskets are packed away, and we return to ordinary life. But the things we have gathered around this summer: belonging, rest, trust, hospitality, hope, nourishment and story are meant to come with us. Paul says that all God’s commandments are summed up simply: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” Jesus reminds us that this love is lived out in real community: through honest conversations, reconciliation, forgiveness, and the promise that whenever even two or three gather in his name, Christ is there with them. The picnic may be over, but the gift of being together continues.

We’ll wrap up our summer series with ice cream sundaes and a celebration of joy. From water turned into w**e to the fruits of the Spirit, scripture reminds us that God’s goodness is meant to be experienced, savoured, and shared. Come and taste and see that the Lord is good!

During the week of August 10-14, our VBS kids have learned what it means to be rooted in a relationship with God, their safe place during life’s storms. Come along as we celebrate VBS week and as the kids get a chance to share some of the scriptures, stories and songs!

Some of the most meaningful moments happen around a shared meal. From manna in the wilderness to breakfast on the beach with Jesus, we’ll discover how God feeds both body and spirit and how ordinary meals can become sacred moments of grace.
