At Symons Valley United Church, we believe our faith calls us to look beyond our differences and remember our responsibility to one another. We can disagree about the future while still caring deeply about the people with whom we share it. As we move forward, we offer this prayer for our province and all who call Alberta home.

Loving God,
In these uncertain times, remind us how easily differences of opinion can become divisions between neighbours, friends, and even families. Help us remember that we do not have to agree on everything to care deeply about one another.

As we consider what lies ahead for Alberta, give us the wisdom to listen beyond our own experiences and understand how the decisions we make affect the lives of others.

Keep us mindful of our responsibilities to Indigenous peoples and the promises of reconciliation that must never be set aside. We know that building understanding is not always easy. It asks us to be patient, to question our assumptions, and sometimes to change our minds.

But this is the work of love to which Jesus calls us. May our hope for Alberta be found not simply in the future we imagine for ourselves, but in the kind of community we are willing to create together.
Amen.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by today’s terrible tragedy in Calgary’s Saddle Ridge community. At Symons Valley United Church, we are praying for those who were injured and for the families facing unimaginable loss tonight. We know that many across our city are struggling with this news, and we share in their sadness.

We are also deeply thankful for the courage and care shown by Calgary Police, Fire, EMS, and everyone who responded to this tragedy. Their work in such difficult circumstances means so much.

A Prayer for Our Community
Loving God,
Tonight, we pray for those whose lives have been changed by this tragedy.
Hold those who are grieving in your love, and bring healing to those who are injured. In the difficult days ahead, may your presence bring comfort and remind us that we do not face sorrow alone.
Amen.

Some exciting news from Symons Valley United Church! We’re delighted to welcome Leandro Lafont, as our new Choral Director!

Leandro brings a wealth of musical experience as a singer, musician, and choir director, having worked with both adults and children. He and his family have recently made Calgary their new home, and we’re excited to welcome him into our Symons Valley community.

Please join us in giving Leandro a big SVUC welcome! We look forward to making wonderful music together. Thank you also to everyone involved and for their work in the hiring process, including our Ministry and Personnel Committee, Music Coordinator Donna Williams, and our Ministers.

A Fresh New Look at Symons Valley United Church! Have you seen our new front entrance signs? Our refreshed branding is finding its place around the church, and we’re excited to see another part of our new look come to life!
Thank you to everyone who has been part of the conversations, discernment, and prayers that helped shape our new identity. This has been a shared journey, reflecting who we are as a faith community and where we hope to go together.
A special thank you to Scot Middleton for picking up our new signsand taking care of the installation. We appreciate your time and help in making this happen!
Another step forward as we continue to be a place Where Faith Is Nurtured and Love Is Lived.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Orange Shirt Sunday and showed up in orange. Sundays like this invite us to put our core values into practice: living our faith through action, extending compassion by listening deeply, and being inclusive by honouring each person’s dignity. And we seek relationship through respect, understanding, and a continuing commitment to reconciliation. May the care and reflection we shared on Sunday continue to shape how we live, learn, and show up throughout the year.
