We are finishing off our mini-spotlight series with our newest BOBC pastor, Pastor Chris.

"If you're school-aged, you're my people!" is how Pastor Chris would describe his main role as BOBC's Youth Pastor. He is the head of the 180 youth ministry, and provides pastoral support to the heads of the other children's ministries including Awana, Compass Kids, and Discovery Land.

A daily part of his routine that he loves but that the church family might not see, is getting to the church early during the week, usually between 8:15-8:30am while the building is still quiet. He enjoys making a coffee and listening to life come into the building as the school kids start showing up. A lot of mornings, he'll spend time greeting the kids, picking at them, and getting to know them better.

"The Christian Cheat Code" is what he has dubbed Philippians 4:6-7, his favourite verses. "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." God started using these verses in his life when he was a child struggling with anxiety, and God has continued to use them through so many circumstances in his life. He went on to say "No matter what circumstance or struggle we are dealing with in our lives, I've found these verses to provide a formula to get through it, but not only to get through the struggle, but to thrive through the struggle."

If Pastor Chris could give one piece of advice to a young person going into ministry, he'd tell them to study everything for themselves...know their Bible, and know from the Bible why they believe what they believe. Rightly divide the word of truth, and don't rely on others to teach you or make you understand God's Word.

Aside from Jesus, Peter is one Biblical figure that Pastor Chris would love to spend time with, just to see if he matches the image he has in his mind of him.

For those of you that know Pastor Chris well (or even a little bit), you know that he loves coffee...so much so that he has a little plug-in warmer on his desk that keeps his coffee nice and hot all day long, but ssshhhh...don't tell the trustees!

As we continue our mini-spotlight series on the BOBC pastors, we want to honour and thank Pastor Nathan!

Pastor Nathan is our associate pastor and his main roles at BOBC are connections, organizing and leading worship, small groups and discipleship. He also enjoys opportunities to teach and preach whenever he can.

When asked about something that God has been teaching him this past year, Pastor Nathan said "God has been teaching me the necessity of developing my heart for Him first - even before I get to work on important responsibilities at home and at church."

Something that is part of Pastor Nathan's weekly routine that the church family might not see but that brings him joy, is his weekly meeting with a group of young men. He loves getting together with them and encouraging them as they mature in faith and character.

If Pastor Nathan has a free Saturday morning, he enjoys getting some work in the yard done, going for a walk with Sarah, or going to the gym with Griffin.

When you walk into Pastor Nathan's office, you'll see lots of interesting things on his desk, including a Lego version of He-Man!

All of our pastors covet and need your prayers, and when Pastor Nathan was asked what if there was something specific that he would like people to pray for this year, he said that he would appreciate if we pray that all he does would be compelled by love for Jesus and others, not just duty.

Our church wouldn't be the same without Pastor Nathan and his family. Please take a moment to leave a note of encouragement and thanks for them today!

To celebrate Pastor Appreciation Month, we're sharing a mini-spotlight on each of our pastors over the next few days so our church family can get to know them a little better!

As our lead pastor, Pastor Jeff is responsible to be the main teacher of the church. He casts vision and implements strategy to accomplish our mission of making disciples of Jesus. He spends most of his time on sermon prep, counselling, visitation, and planning.

Part of his weekly routine that the church might not see but that brings him joy, is the Tuesday morning staff meeting. During that meeting, the staff talk through almost everything that needs to be accomplished in the days ahead, share requests, problem solve, and pray for one another and the church family. He says "It might not sound that fun, but there is always hearty laughter and tender concern for one another, for which I am grateful."

Pastor Jeff's favourite verse is 1 Corinthians 15:58: "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." He's grateful that the Lord not only notices, but rewards faithfulness, perseverance, and sacrifice in ministry for Him. He doesn't deserve it, but God is gracious and that truth has motivated and encouraged him throughout the years.

If there is one piece of wisdom that Pastor Jeff could pass on to a young person entering ministry, he'd tell them to stay close to Jesus. That is the only thing that matters. It will keep you from shipwrecking your life and your ministry, and everything good in your life and ministry will trickle down from that closeness.

Besides Jesus, another Biblical figure that Pastor Jeff would love to sit down and have lunch with is John because he was pretty close to Jesus...and he had this revelation that Pastor Jeff has some questions about!

Each of our pastors have things on their desks that you might not expect...for Pastor Jeff, it's 5 jars from his kids that are full (for now) of candy...mostly so the kids can go into his office and eat candy whenever they want.

When asked how the church can best support him and his family over the next year, he asked for 3 things: that we pray for them, that we assume the best of them and not the worst, and that we talk to and encourage their kids in their faith.
