SPECIAL EVENT INVITATION

Around the Lake Chad Basin on the African continent, thousands of farmers are fighting back to stop an entire ecosystem from unraveling because of climate change. Friends of Creation is a ministry program dedicated to providing resources and financial assistance to the farmers of Chad and Cameroon.

September is Friends of Creation month at Zion. As part of the Friends of Creation Challenge, congregations are invited to choose one action that helps care for creation in your everyday life. Whether it’s cutting down on food waste, using less energy, or supporting local farmers, every small step makes a difference.

We are pleased to host a Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) update on mission activities at Lake Chad. Church Relations Specialist Sheilagh McGlynn will speak about her visit to Chad and Cameroon in February 2026.

🌍 Friends of Creation: An Update from Chad and Cameroon

Please join us as we welcome Sheilagh McGlynn, Church Relations Specialist with Canadian Lutheran World Relief, to SSLSM for a special presentation about the Friends of Creation campaign.

Sheilagh travelled to Chad and Cameroon in February 2026 as part of a Church Leaders delegation, where she was able to see the work of the Friends of Creation campaign firsthand.

Come and hear stories from her visit and learn more about the work being done in areas including climate change, food security, Peace Committees, and Village Savings and Loan Associations, as well as how this important work will continue.

The presentation will be approximately 90 minutes, with time for questions afterward.

What a delightful Fifth Sunday service we shared on August 30th!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed so generously. Together, we raised over $460 for Friends of Creation and Lake Chad, and we were also pleased to donate $150 to Camp Mush-a-Mush.

We are grateful for the opportunity to gather in worship, fellowship and generosity as a shared ministry.
