Huge thanks and congratulations to all involved... we continue celebrating tomorrow with our International Women's Day Celebration 9am :) All welcome :)
Today marks the 34th Anniversary of the Ordination of Women priests in the Anglican Church of Australia.
On this day in 1992, Archbishop Peter Carnley ordained the first ten women as priests in Perth, a service so historic it was broadcast on television.
A momentous occasion for St George’s Cathedral, for the diocese of Perth, and for these women and their families:
• Elizabeth Emmaline Arney (Betty)
• Elizabeth Mae Couche
• Kay Maree Goldsworthy
• Constance Pamela Halbert
• Jennifer Robin Hall (Jenny)
• Teresa Catherine Milne (Tess)
• Judith Mary Peterkin
• Catherine Joyce Pinner (Cathy)
• Joyce Sylvia Polson
• Robin Kathleen Barbara Tandy
From this list, Kay Maree Goldsworthy AO, would go on to become Australia’s first woman bishop and the world’s first woman Anglican Archbishop.
Today we honour all female priests, as we remember and reflect on the courage and commitment of those early pioneers.
