This ties in well with our LGBTIQA+ Affirming Mass next month - when Associate Professor Mark Jennings will preach and do a Q & A on conversion therapy :) Come along!

No matter who you are, where you come from, or what you believe - everyone deserves to feel safe in the place they call home.

That’s why we’re modernising laws to strengthen protections against discrimination for people from all walks of life - helping us build safe and inclusive communities.

It’s been close to a year since the horrific act of terrorism in Bondi, and the alleged terror attack in Forrest Place.

Both of these events left many people in our community understandably shaken, and unsure if it’s safe to practise a simple expression of their faith.

It’s unacceptable - and any act of hatred or violence will not be tolerated in WA.

It’s true across different cultures - and it’s just as true for people from all walks of life.

Whether it’s a woman who’s pregnant or breastfeeding, someone living with disability, a victim-survivor of family and domestic violence or a member of the LGBTIQA+ community, everyone has the right to be treated with respect and have a fair go in life.

The Equal Opportunity Act is more than 40 years old, and modernising it will bring us into line with other States - and make WA a fairer place for everyone.

It will expand protections against discrimination, harassment and vilification - and provide people who have been discriminated against an avenue to make complains and seek recourse.

This isn’t about stopping people from having different views - it’s about creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and included.

Because every Western Australian deserves to live their life free from discrimination.
