He is Risen! Alleluia!
Today we rejoice in the empty tomb and the victory of Christ over death.
Like Mary Magdalene, Peter and John, we run towards the light of hope and new life.
May the joy of the Resurrection renew our hearts and strengthen our faith.

Dear Mazenodian Families,

Hot on the heels of the AFL 2026 fixture release is our own calendar of events for the 60th Anniversary of Mazenod in 2026 and 2027.

Those with an Eagle eye, will notice that our Cathedral Anniversary Mass unfortunately clashes with a Docker’s home match, ironically against the Saints. On this occasion, we hope that Mass will take precedence over the mighty Dockers.

Please accept our Mazenod College invitations to a wonderful range of activities to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the College. We are hopeful that as many members of our community as possible can attend these events as Moments of Grace.

2026 will see the College celebrate its 60th Anniversary, while 2027 will see our Boarding celebrate its 60th Anniversary.

We give thanks to God for every Mazenodian who has made a positive contribution to our community, past, present and future.

Please mark these key dates in your calendar for next year!

Ash Wednesday
As we begin the Lenten journey, we are reminded of our humility, our humanity, and our hope.
“For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” — Genesis 3:19
Today invites us to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts for renewal. May this season bring deeper compassion, clarity, and grace.

Dear Friends.

It is with great joy that I write to share with you that at noon today in Rome (7.00pm here in Perth) the Vatican announced the news that the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, had appointed Fr Nelson Po, presently the Parish Priest of Applecross Parish, as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Perth.

Bishop-elect Nelson will join Bishop Don and myself in the pastoral leadership of the archdiocese at a time of increasing demands and complexity, and also of great opportunity.

The Holy Father’s appointment of Bishop-elect Nelson is a moment for joy and excitement for the Catholic community of our archdiocese. The laity, religious and clergy of our archdiocese have been gifted with a new and dynamic shepherd who will bring many gifts to the pastoral leadership of the Archdiocese of Perth.

Bishop-elect Nelson is well known for his pastoral sensitivity, his commitment to his people, his love for the Church and its liturgy, and for his generosity in undertaking many additional roles in the archdiocese beyond his responsibilities as parish priest.

The episcopal ordination of Bishop-elect Nelson will take place on a date to be determined, following the Easter Triduum. Until the ordination bishop-elect Nelson will continue to live at Applecross and care for the parish community there.

In the weeks ahead, let us all support our new bishop-elect with our encouragement, our affection and especially our prayers.

Dear Friends.

In this unprecedented moment in time following the death of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, I wish to share with you my thoughts on his extraordinary life and ministry.

The Holy Father passed away at Casa Santa Marta at 7:35am local time in Rome on Monday, 21 April 2025. While it does not come as a surprise given the Holy Father’s age and declining health in recent months, the news will be received with great sadness by Catholics, and by people of good will, all over the world.

I will celebrate a Solemn Pontifical Mass for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis at St Mary’s Cathedral with the clergy and the faithful of Perth on Tuesday, 22 April 2025 at 12.10pm.
