Wonderful news...!

With great pleasure, we announced at Sunday’s combined service the appointment by the Archbishop of Revd. Jackson Lisok as Priest in Charge of Swan Parish, commencing his ministry in late May / early June.

We thank God for Jackson’s ministry and look forward to welcoming him and his family to our parish.

Almost 60 worshippers from several different Christian faiths attended the Midland regional World Day of Prayer service in St Mary’s on Friday, March 6, to support victims of the Nigerian civil war, led by Swan Parish warden Rosalyn Tay-Brighton

The guest speaker, Joseph Erekaha, chairperson of the Nigerian Association of WA, spoke about the current civil war in Nigeria, expressing his deep concern for the country and its people, many of whom had been killed. This has had a long-term effect on the country, home to over 250 ethnic groups, including the two main faiths of Christianity and Islam.

St Mary’s worshipper Janet Hewett, the chairperson of the organising committee, said Christians in Nigeria had a strong faith in God and believed a positive outcome would occur in His timing.

“Please continue to pray for Nigeria and its people,” she said.
The heartfelt concern and giving of those present at the service were reflected in the offering taken and also in the 25 varied dishes, some Nigerian, provided for morning tea after the service.

A poster made by Rosemary Herbert welcomed guests to the service in four different native Nigerian languages.

Janet said that the money raised at this service and others in WA would be passed on to the Bible Society of Nigeria via the World Day of Prayer Committee of WA.
