Mothers’ Union aims to create safe spaces within communities, with a 2026 vision of ‘serving others and nurturing ourselves’.

Last Sunday (9 August) marked Mary Sumner Day in honour of the founder of the Mothers’ Union.

What makes this year special is Mothers’ Union’s 150th anniversary.

Earlier this year, women from across the Diocese came together in celebration of Lady Day – Mothers' Union’s annual service.

President of Mothers’ Union Newcastle Elisabeth Bissaker says that, even after 150 years, the aim is still the same — to encourage faith, strengthen families, and support one another.

St Thomas celebrates its 100th anniversary ⛪🎉

Parishioners from across Cardiff-Boolaroo gathered on Sunday to celebrate ‘100 Years of Us’.

Reverend Elizabeth Falckh led the church service at St Thomas Anglican Church in Cardiff to acknowledge 100 years at the present site.

There was also a delicious lunch, presentations, and plenty of laughter and reminiscing.

We share our journey towards meaningful reconciliation as Newcastle Anglican launches its first-ever Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Two young people who are being supported through Samaritans Student Accommodation discuss how it has helped them to green light their goals.

We recognise some of our incredible volunteers across the organisation, and provide an update on Christ Church Cathedral Newcastle NSW’s historic restoration.

The First Session of the Fifty-Fifth Synod is taking place in Newcastle today.

Synod is the gathering of the clergy and lay representatives of the Diocese with the Bishop to make decisions about the life of Newcastle Anglican.

It was a momentous occasion for the organisation as we launched our first-ever Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

During the launch, several members from Manning Valley Anglican College's Traditional Dance Crew showcased their passion and dedication to culture with a wonderful performance.

Bishop Peter has tonight convened the First Session of the Fifty-Fifth Synod, during a service at Christ Church Cathedral Newcastle NSW

Synod began with the Celebration of the Eucharist and Ordination to the Diaconate of Catriona McKay.

Bishop Peter was joined by Bishop Sonia and Bishop Charlie, along with members of the Clergy and parishioners.

There was also a blessing for the journey of the Mothers' Union to recognise its 150 anniversary.

This month marks 179 years since the Diocese of Newcastle was established on 25 June 1847 by Letters Patent issued by Queen Victoria.

The boundaries of the new diocese were defined as stretching ‘from the Hawkesbury River in the South, to the 21st Parallel of Latitude on the North, and from the Pacific on the East, to the boundary of South Australia on the West’.

It is now best described as Woy Woy to Laurieton and inland to Merriwa and Murrurundi.

June also marked the welcoming of Newcastle’s first Bishop, when, on the 29 June 1847 (St. Peter's Day), the Reverend William Tyrrell was consecrated in Westminster Abbey.

A new cross has been installed atop Christ Church Cathedral to mark a significant milestone in the restoration project.

The trefoil cross was created using like-for-like techniques and is a testimony to the intricate details and craftsmanship being used throughout the restoration.

Bishop Peter consecrated the cross on Wednesday morning. It will now stand on the Warriors’ Chapel for generations to come.
