Church on the Move – 4th Sunday of the month (except December), 11am in various Westlake’s locations

Macquarie View – 3rd Thursday of the month, 10am at Bolton Clarke Retirement Community

🌿 When Creation Takes Your Breath Away… ✨

From the breathtaking coastline of Wadandi Country in the Margaret River region to the extraordinary landscapes of Yued Country, Rev Melanie has recently returned from a wonderful holiday exploring Western Australia with her Mum.

What an incredible opportunity to experience the beauty, diversity and wonder of God's Creation! 💚

From venturing underground into the magnificent caves of the Margaret River region, with their extraordinary formations shaped over thousands of years, to watching the sun set over the remarkable limestone Pinnacles before gazing up at a night sky filled with stars. 🌌
There were rugged coastlines, ancient landscapes, beautiful wildflowers, turquoise waters and the unforgettable experience of visiting Wadjemup (Rottnest Island), including meeting a few of its famous quokkas!

Each place offered something different, yet all invited a sense of wonder at the extraordinary world we are part of.

Being on Country also provided opportunities to learn about the deep and continuing connections Aboriginal peoples have with land, waters and seasons, and to appreciate the ways Country holds stories, knowledge and meaning.

Alongside the natural beauty, there were moments of reflection. Wadjemup, despite its breathtaking beauty, holds a deeply painful history for Aboriginal peoples. A visit to Fremantle Prison also offered insights into histories of colonisation and gender inequality. These experiences were reminders that appreciating the beauty of a place and acknowledging its history can go hand in hand.

Above all, it was a holiday filled with wonder, gratitude, laughter and precious memories shared with Rev Melanie's Mum. ❤️

Sometimes stepping away from our everyday routines helps us rediscover the extraordinary in the world around us. The colours of a sunset, the vastness of the night sky, the sound of the ocean, the intricate beauty of a wildflower. Each invites us to pause, be present and give thanks.

As the Psalmist reminds us: “The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it.” — Psalm 24:1 (NRSV)

Pack a chair, pack a picnic, and join us outdoors! ☀

Church on the Move is heading to Blackalls Park for a short, simple time of worship followed by a bring-and-share picnic lunch.

Sunday 25 October | 11:30am | Blackalls Park (set up is a short distance from the car park, for easy access)

What to bring:
- A camp chair
- Some lunch to share
- Sturdy shoes

Juice and water will be provided. If the weather isn’t kind, we’ll meet in the Parish Hall instead.

Bring the family, bring a friend, or come on your own. Everyone is welcome. For bad weather, we meet in the Foyer of the Church.

What's the difference between All Saints and All Souls? 💙

With these two days coming up at the start of November, here's a simple answer:

◻️ All Saints' Day remembers the saints, those recognised throughout history for their extraordinary faith, as well as all believers who now rest in God's presence. It's a celebration of the faithful who've gone before us.

◻️ All Souls' Day is a time to remember and give thanks for our own loved ones who have died, friends, family, anyone dear to us. It's quieter and more personal, a chance to hold their memory close in prayer.

Together, these days remind us that death isn't the end of the story. We believe in the hope of resurrection, and that we remain connected, in God, to those we've lost.

This year, our Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving for All Souls is Monday 2 November at 6pm, and we'll celebrate All Saints' Day on Sunday 1 November at our 9am service.

All are welcome, whoever you're remembering, or even if you're simply curious.

💚 Mental Health Month | Looking after our mental health

Looking after our mental health can take many forms and what helps one person may be different from what helps another.

Sometimes it’s the small things that help support us:

🌿 Getting outside and spending some time in the sunshine
🚶 Moving your body in a way that feels good for you
😴 Making space for rest and sleep
🥗 Eating regularly and nourishing your body
🐕 Spending time with an animal you love
🎨 Doing something you enjoy - gardening, music, reading, creating, cooking or simply being somewhere you love
☕ Connecting with someone you trust
🙏 Prayer, reflection or simply finding a little quiet
❤️ Being gentle with yourself on the days when even the small things feel hard

And sometimes we need more support than these things can provide. That’s okay too.

Talking with your GP can be a good place to start. If you’re eligible, a Mental Health Treatment Plan can help you access Medicare subsidised sessions with an eligible mental health professional. It can also be worth asking about costs, bulk billing and the Medicare Safety Net.

You don’t have to wait until things become overwhelming before asking for help.

Meet Melanie! 👋

The Rev’d Melanie Whalley is our Parish Priest here at Toronto Anglican Church, and if you’ve been along to a service, you’ve likely met her already.

Rev’d Melanie says: “I’m passionate about building compassionate, thriving communities, places where people feel seen, valued and connected. What I love about parish ministry is getting to share life with people: celebrating the joyful moments, walking alongside people through the difficult ones, and seeing the ways our church can make a difference in our wider community.”💛

When she’s not leading worship, working alongside community organisations, advocating for others, or caring for parishioners, you might find her at the gym, spending time with her family and their groodle, at the soccer (as a soccer parent), or getting stuck into her latest study project.

Melanie’s days off are Friday and Saturday, but throughout the rest of the week her ministry takes her into all sorts of places, from the church and wider community to meetings, pastoral conversations and, of course, the occasional cuppa and a chat!

What if we saw a little more of God in every person we meet? 💜

In today's Gospel (Matthew 22:15 - 33), Jesus is asked a tricky question about taxation and authority. But his response invites us to consider something much deeper.
The coin bears the emperor's image. But we bear the image of God.

Every one of us, regardless of our background, circumstances or place in society.
Our faith is not separate from the world around us. It shapes how we respond to injustice, how we exercise power, and how we treat one another.

🕯️ Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

For many people and families, this day holds a grief that can be difficult to speak about - the loss of a pregnancy or the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth.

If this is part of your story, in whatever way you name or hold that loss, please know that you are not alone. Your grief matters, and the life and hopes you carry in your heart are not forgotten. Tonight, people around the world will take part in the Wave of Light, lighting a candle at 7pm and allowing it to burn for an hour, creating a wave of light across time zones in remembrance of babies and pregnancies lost too soon. You are welcome to light a candle tonight, wherever you are remembering in whatever way is meaningful for you.

If you are grieving, whether your loss was recent or many years ago, our parish community is here to offer a listening ear, or simply someone to sit alongside you.

Life can be heavy sometimes, and carrying that weight alone can make it heavier still. Whatever you’re walking through right now, know this: you don’t have to carry it by yourself.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
