A Message of Hope, Resilience, and Revival for Our Beloved Welkom
To the resilient people of Welkom,
There is a powerful spiritual truth found in Jeremiah 29:7, which reminds us:
"Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."
Today, we look at our beloved city not through the lens of its current challenges, but through the eyes of its undeniable potential and future. Let it be known, far and wide: Welkom will not go down.
There is hope, there is a future, and a powerful revival is quietly underway right beneath our feet.
As we lift our city up in prayer, we are also witnessing practical, tangible answers manifest through strategic developments and massive economic investments.
A New Dawn of Economic Investment
The economic tide is turning. The establishment of new solar energy companies and the influx of incoming investments signal a turning point for our local economy. These projects are not just corporate milestones—they are the answers to our prayers for job creation. By bringing sustainable industries to Welkom, we are positioning ourselves to directly confront and dismantle the social ills of unemployment, poverty, and crime that have weighed on our communities for too long.
Furthermore, we welcome and celebrate the monumental announcement by the Executive Mayor regarding the approval of nearly R240 billion over the next five years dedicated to infrastructure development. This massive capital injection will directly target the overhaul of our aging pipe networks, finally addressing the critical sewage issues that have impacted our daily lives and dignity. This is a massive victory for our city’s future readiness.
The Power of Active Citizenship
While we welcome government infrastructure spend and corporate investment, the true heartbeat of Welkom lies in its people. We highly commend the citizens who have refused to sit back and fold their hands. To every resident, business owner, and community leader who has taken personal responsibility for their surroundings rather than simply waiting on the state—we see you, and we applaud you.
To take this spirit of collective ownership further, let us envision and establish a dedicated, monthly "City Cleaning Day." Imagine the impact of setting aside one day every month where we, as proud citizens, step out together to clean, restore, and beautify our streets. True civic pride is built when we take ownership of the places we call home.
A Message to Our Young People
To our brilliant, resilient, buth currently unemployed youth in Welkom: Do not give up. Do not lose heart.
The current waiting season is not your final destination. While you wait and position yourselves for the formal employment opportunities coming through these new investments, do not sit in despair. Start where you are, with what you have. If you can sell a product, offer a service, or start a small hustle—do it with pride and excellence. Action cures despair. Let hope be your fuel, and let your hands find work in the interim, knowing that your breakthrough is on the horizon.
Moving Forward Together
Welkom is a city destined for prosperity. As we continue to pray fervently for its peace and growth, let us back our prayers with local pride, active citizenship, and unwavering hope.
Our city will rise, our economy will thrive, and together, we will witness the restoration of the Goldfields.
God bless Welkom, and God bless its extraordinary people.
