The Baptism of the Lord reminds us that Jesus humbly enters our human condition, sanctifies the waters of baptism, and reveals His divine identity. It also calls us to remember our own baptism to live as beloved children of God, guided by the Holy Spirit.

Mr Molantwa, the Lay Minister, reminded us that during Baptism we were washed and made to take a vow, when we were asked:
“Le furalla Satane, le mesebetsi yohle ya hae?”
and we answered “Ee re ya mofuralla.”

He challenged us to reflect honestly:
Do we still uphold that promise today, or have we changed and lost ourselves along the way?
Have we allowed sin, temptation, and worldly pressures to pull us away from the values we once professed?

This reflection calls us back to our baptismal identity to reject evil daily, renew our commitment to Christ, and return to the path of faith, integrity, and obedience to God.
It is not a question of condemnation, but an invitation to renewal, repentance, and recommitment.

A Prayer to End GBV-F in South Africa

Heavenly Father,
We come before You with heavy hearts, crying out for an end to Gender-Based Violence in our nation. Comfort every family that has lost a Child, Brother, daughter, a sister, a mother, or a friend. Wrap them in Your healing love and restore their broken spirits.

Lord, protect all women and girls, especially those who live in fear. Give strength and wisdom to those who have survived, and remind us who have never felt this pain to stand with courage, compassion, and understanding.

We pray for our leaders and our government:
May You guide them to act with justice, integrity, and urgency.
Let laws be strengthened, let accountability be real, and let justice flow like a river across South Africa.

Father, heal our homes, heal our communities, and heal our nation.
Let peace replace violence, love replace fear, and dignity be restored to every life.

In Your holy name we pray,
Amen.
