Tokai Community Church

Tokai Community Church To know Christ and to make Christ known We are committed to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and to the Bible as the Word of God.

All our activities are focused on explaining and applying the lordship of Jesus, as explained in the Bible, to everyday living, on encouraging fellowship with one another; and on introducing Jesus to those who don't yet know Him as their Lord. To that end, we are committed to Bible teaching for the whole family of God. As a local church, TCC is a Constituent Church in the Church of England in South Africa (C.E.S.A.).

1 Peter 2:6
6 For in Scripture it says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame.”
PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, we thank You for Jesus Christ, the chosen and precious cornerstone. Please help us by Your Spirit to build our lives on Him alone and not on anything that will fail us. Teach us to trust Him fully, even when life feels uncertain. We hold fast to Your promise that all who trust in Him will never be put to shame. Oh Lord, strengthen our faith today, and anchor our hope in Christ alone. In His name we pray, Amen.

Prayer for Youth Day – South Africa

Psalm 78:4-7
We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation
the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.
He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.
Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.

Jeremiah 29:7
Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we remember before You the events of 16 June 1976, when young people in our nation rose up in protest against injustice, and many suffered and died in the pursuit of dignity, opportunity, and a better future. As we commemorate Youth Day, we acknowledge both the courage of that generation and the deep pain that marks our national story. Now, fifty years later, Lord, we confess that we are still far from the justice, equality, and flourishing that so many longed for and gave their lives for. We still see brokenness in education, inequality among communities, and uncertainty and despair among many of our young people. Yet we also hear Your Word, that You will not hide Your truth from the next generation, but will declare Your mighty works so that they might set their hope in You. And You call us to seek the peace and welfare of the city where You have placed us. So we pray for South Africa: bring healing where there is still deep wound and division, justice where there is ongoing inequality, and hope where there is discouragement. We pray especially for the youth of our nation - that they would not be defined by frustration or loss, but would encounter Christ, the true foundation and living hope. And Lord, make us faithful in our generation - faithful in prayer, faithful in witness, and faithful in seeking the good of our nation - until Your purposes are fulfilled among us. Amen.

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭

As you come to him, the living Stone – rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him – you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

PRAYER
Our Gracious God and Father in heaven, thank you for the access that we have to Jesus Christ, the Living Stone. Please help us by Your Spirit to meditate on the implications of this blessing and privilege. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

PRAYER
Out Father in heaven, thank you Lord, for a new day and fresh opportunity to live for You. We need You; we need Your life-giving presence oh God. We depend on Your mercy and Your grace. Please Father, give us a deep craving for Your pure Word, so that we may grow strong in our salvation. Remind us, believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, of the sweetness we have tasted in You, and by the power of Your Spirit, give us an even deeper hunger and thirst that will draw us closer each day. Feed our hearts with truth, strengthen our faith, and shape our lives to reflect Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

1 Peter 2:1-2
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we confess that our hearts are often stained by our sin of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and careless words. Please Lord, by Your Spirit, help us to put away these sins and to walk in love and sincerity before You and one another. Create in us a deep hunger for Your Word. Like newborn babies craving milk, may we long for the pure spiritual nourishment that comes from You. Feed our souls with Your Word of truth, strengthen our faith in Christ, and cause us to grow in the salvation You have so graciously given us. For Your glory and our good, we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭22‬-‭25‬ ‭

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, ‘All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures for ever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you.

PRAYER
Lord God, You who speak life and never fade, thank you for the new birth You have given us through Your living, enduring Word. Thank you Lord that we have access to this Word. Cleanse our hearts by this Word, Your Truth; kindle in us sincere love that is deep, humble, and without pretense. Teach us to love one another from the heart, bearing one another’s burdens and reflecting Your mercy in our words and deeds. When our pride and passing pleasures wither, keep us rooted in You - steady, generous, and faithful - so that Your hope and glory shine through us into the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

1 Peter 1:20-21
20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we praise You for Your great plan of salvation. Before the creation of the world, You chose Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to be our Saviour. Thank You that in these last days You revealed Him for our sake, that we might know You and be reconciled to You. Thank You that through Jesus we believe in You - the God who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him. Thank You that the resurrection of Christ assures us that sin has been conquered, death has been defeated, and Your promises can be trusted completely. Please Lord, strengthen our faith when we are weak, and deepen our hope when we are discouraged. Help us to look away from ourselves and fix our eyes on Christ, trusting not in our own strength, wisdom, or circumstances, but in You alone. May our confidence rest in the risen and exalted Lord Jesus, and may our lives reflect the certainty that our faith and hope are in You, Almighty God of heaven and earth. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Following on from our morning series, on Sunday evenings we will be hosting four weeks of Winter Bible School, where our guest speakers, Gerard Jampies and Nathan Lovell, will help us get to grips with some big theological topics (such as "The Bible and Genocide" and "Christianity and Politics").

Warm soup and rolls will be available at the start of the evening for R40 per person.

If you don't normally attend on a Sunday evening, why not join us for this different format over the holidays? We'd love to see you there!

Starts on the 28th of June at 18:30.

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬-‭19‬

Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

PRAYER
Our gracious God, Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour and in the power of the Holy Spirit, we humbly come before you with reverent hearts. You are a holy and righteous Judge who sees every life and work with perfect impartiality. Help us to live as strangers here, walking in holy fear and sober obedience. Remind us daily that we were not redeemed by perishable things but by the precious, spotless blood of Christ. Teach us to honour that costly grace in how we speak, serve, and love. Oh Lord, please keep us faithful until the day we stand before you. Amen.

1 Peter 1:14-16
As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’

PRAYER
Father God, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we come to You as Your children. Please help us not to keep living the way we used to, following our old habits and desires. Instead, teach us to live in a new way because we belong to Jesus. Shape our lives so that they look more like Yours. Help us to want what You want, and to turn away from what pulls us away from You. In the small things and the big things - our thoughts, our words, and what we choose each day - help us to live in a way that pleases You. Oh Lord, You have called us to be holy, because You are holy. Please don’t let that feel distant or impossible, but make it real in us through Your Spirit. Slowly, gently, day by day, change us to be more like Jesus. Amen.
