Tokai Community Church To know Christ and to make Christ known We are committed to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and to the Bible as the Word of God.

All our activities are focused on explaining and applying the lordship of Jesus, as explained in the Bible, to everyday living, on encouraging fellowship with one another; and on introducing Jesus to those who don't yet know Him as their Lord. To that end, we are committed to Bible teaching for the whole family of God. As a local church, TCC is a Constituent Church in the Church of England in South Africa (C.E.S.A.).

1 Peter 1:4-5
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we continue to praise You alone for Your great mercy towards us; for giving us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ; for that hope which is not fragile or uncertain, but alive, secure, and anchored in the victory of Christ. Thank you Lord, that even when circumstances are difficult, and the future seems unclear, our confidence rests not in this world but in You. By the work of Your Spirit, lift our eyes to the inheritance You have prepared for us, Your children - an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. Thank You that what You have promised is kept safe in heaven and cannot be taken away. Please strengthen our faith each day. Shield us by Your power when we are weak, fearful, or weary. Help us to trust that You are preserving us and carrying us toward the fullness of the salvation You have prepared. Teach us to live as people of hope, marked by gratitude, perseverance, and joyful expectation. Oh Lord, may the reality of Christ's resurrection shape our thoughts, our choices, and our hearts. Fill us with assurance that You are faithful to complete what You have begun and that one day we will see the fulfillment of all Your promises. Thank you for hearing our prayers which we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord, Amen.

PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, thank you for making us new, for calling us into a new and living hope that is absolutely, secure because Jesus Christ was raised from the dead and is alive. Oh Lord, please help us to trust You. Help us to live each day with confidence, joy, and thankfulness, knowing that You are at work in us, and that our future is held firmly in Your hands. 1 Peter 1:1-2
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, exiles, scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, thank you for the privilege to read Your Word in the Old Testament as well as in the New Testament. As we take a break from Daniel, continue to speak into our hearts by Your Spirit, over the next couple of weeks as we read 1 Peter.
Lord, even though Your chosen people are scattered all across the world, You are with them. We have Your powerful and eternal revelation of Your Word. You have indeed revealed Yourself - generally through the wonder of Creation, but specifically in and through the pages of the Holy Scriptures. Thank you Lord for Your faithfulness to Your promise to never leave or forsake us. Dear God, may we continue to know the blessings of Your grace and Your peace in us and amongst us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Daniel 6:24-28
At the king’s command, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought in and thrown into the lions’ den, along with their wives and children. And before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones. Then King Darius wrote to all the nations and peoples of every language in all the earth: ‘May you prosper greatly! ‘I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. ‘For he is the living God and he endures for ever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.’ So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, You are worthy to be praised for Your steadfast dominion and saving power. Where injustice seeks to harm Your people, You vindicate them; where fear threatens, You give us a deep trust in You, the Most High God. Please Lord, by Your Spirit, continue to keep us from danger, rescue us from the powers of the evil one, and let Your glory be revealed. Father God, as that is seen, will a You turn rulers’ hearts to honour You instead of themselves. Preserve us in Your care, prosper the works of our hands. Let Your Kingdom come, let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Daniel 6:19-23
At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, ‘Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?’ Daniel answered, ‘May the king live for ever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.’ The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, thank you for being the living God who rescues, protects, and remains faithful to those who trust in You. Just as You shut the mouths of the lions for Daniel, we humbly ask You to stand with us in every situation that fills our hearts with fear, uncertainty, or danger. Lord, give us the kind of faith Daniel had — steady, courageous, and unwavering even in difficult times. Help us by Your Spirit, to serve You continually and to trust You when we cannot see the outcome. When we feel surrounded by problems, remind us that Your power is greater than any obstacle before us.
Give us Your peace today. Protect us from harm, guide our steps, and strengthen our spirits. Let our lives be a testimony of Your goodness and faithfulness. May we walk in innocence, integrity, and confidence, knowing that You are always near. Thank You LORD for Your deliverance, Your mercy, and Your unfailing love. Amen.

Daniel 6:14-18
When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sunset to save him. Then the men went as a group to King Darius and said to him, ‘Remember, Your Majesty, that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed.’ So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, ‘May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!’ A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed. Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep.

PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, the true God of Daniel, You are higher than human laws and nearer than our fears. In times of peril, rescue those that we cannot save; uphold the faithful who serve you continually. Turn the plots of the unjust to your glory, give courage to those who watch and wait, and grant us peace that trusts you through the night.
Thank you Lord for Your steadfast mercy and Your Sovereign power and authority.
In Jesus’ name. Amen

Daniel 6:10-13
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened towards Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help. So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: ‘Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human being except to you, Your Majesty, would be thrown into the lions’ den?’ The king answered, ‘The decree stands – in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.’ Then they said to the king, ‘Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.’

PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, that we have access to You at any time and in every situation; can pray to You about anything; that You are always available; that You hear our prayers and answer them - these are incredible blessings that we have as people belonging to God. Thank you Lord. May we never give up the discipline but like Daniel, do it “just as he had done before”. Will we know Your Spirit’s presence, His guidance and protection. We pray in the Name above all names, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Daniel 6:6-9
So these chief ministers and satraps went as a group to the king and said: ‘May King Darius live for ever! The royal ministers, prefects, satraps, advisors and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered – in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.’ So King Darius put the decree in writing.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, please forgive us when we are impressed by human kings and worldly kingdoms. Please teach us by Your Spirit, through the reading of Daniel, that “Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory alone”. You alone are worthy of all praise. To You alone we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Daniel 6:4-5
At this, the chief ministers and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. Finally these men said, ‘We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.’

PRAYER
Lord God Almighty, Most High, our Father in heaven, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, giving thanks to You for Daniel’s example of faithful devotion.
Please give us grace to live with integrity and trustworthiness, so that even in opposition, we may be found faithful to You alone. When loyalty to Christ brings misunderstanding or hostility, by the power of Your Spirit, keep us steadfast, willing to suffer for righteousness, rather than compromise our devotion to You. For the glory of Your Name alone, Amen.

Daniel 6:1-3

It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, with three chief ministers over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss. Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the chief ministers and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, God Most High, You rule over every throne and appoint leaders by Your will and wisdom. Thank You that even in foreign courts You exalt faithful servants and reward integrity. Give us the same spirit of excellence and steadfastness that marked Daniel - skillful in work, faithful in duty, and unwavering in devotion to You. When systems and leaders seek efficiency or loyalty apart from You, keep our hearts loyal to Your kingdom first. Protect us from hidden plots, guard our witness under pressure, and by the power of Your Spirit, use our faithful service to reveal Your justice and mercy. Raise up godly leaders, order human affairs for Your purposes, and let every promotion or responsibility become a means to honour You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
