Unemployment, AIDS, unimaginable crime rates, violence and drugs are all part of daily life in many parts of Kapstadt. Many children have to look after younger siblings because their parents have died, others are sold by their own parents into s*x slavery because of the sheer lack of provisions at home. The youngest grow up in a vicious circle of violence and close-mindedness, where immorality is

often the best strategy for survival. Lewis however has committed himself to fighting these issues and to being a beacon of hope for the people there who have long given up on a solution to their problems. Pastor James Edward Lewis arbeitet unter den einfachsten Umständen in den Orten, von denen sich andere fernhalten. Arbeitslosigkeit, AIDS, grenzenlose Kriminalität, Gewalt und Drogen sind Alltag in vielen Stadtteilen Kapstadts. Manche Kinder müssen sich um jüngere Geschwister kümmern, weil die Eltern an einer Krankheit gestorben sind, andere werden aus Mangel an Mitteln von den eigenen Eltern in die Sexsklaverei verkauft. Die Kleinsten wachsen in einem Teufelskreis an Gewalt und Perspektivlosigkeit auf, da der Moralverlust oft als einzige Überlebensstrategie gesehen wird. Lewis hat sich fest entschlossen: er will aktiv dagegen vorgehen und ein Lichtbringer unter den Menschen sein, die längst jegliche Hoffnungen aufgegeben haben.
